 I came across this quote on my msn home page and for some reason I felt the need to share it with you.  First, I chuckled, then I thought, what the heck does this mean?  So, is there any one out there who will shed some light on this quote?  What was your first response?  What do you think it means? 

"He who doesn't take risks, doesn't drink champagne."

I dont know what this means, maybe hes saying , that champagne is not good for you so to drink it would be taking a risk. Who knows? Maybe, it was meant to make us think.

Well I looked at the site you took it from, Rose. Seems he only lived for 52 years. I wonder, why?

I am sure it was translated from Russian and the real meaning has been lost. The speculations above are interesting and humorous though.

Sue, the above interpretations are interesting but, I think you are right in that the real meaning has been lost... ...did you also notice that the quote was under the "Business" category?
No, actually I hadn't noticed that, Rose, so now I do see what it means. In business it's all about risk taking, no matter what the investment, stocks, real estate, etc. If you don't take the risk you won't be able to celebrate any victory, hence champagne is the metaphor he used here. It's exactly what Tamara said.

I believe that he's saying that without taking a risk you won't be successful. When you accomplish something, get an award, win a competition, you drink champagne to celebrate it.
