Sunday we drove the knight patrol (Z and 2 other boys) to Boy Scout camp. The boys were so excited they talked and laughed the whole way there.
Driving thru the gate was the beginning of a wonderful adventure. We drove across the earthen dam that separates the lake from a valley and up a hill and there we were, Camp Arrowhead.

This tower is the highest point in the camp, a good point of reference if you get lost.
That is, if you can see it thru all the trees.
This eagle watches over the camp and the boys as they learn and grow and have fun.
The boys were supposed to have a swim test first thing so they know who can swim and how well. Unfortunately it was thundering loudly by the time they'd changed and were walking to the pool. They ended up having the test some time between rain showers Monday.
This is the teepee in the area marked 'Order of the Arrow.' I hope everyone gets to at least look inside. Maybe it's something to look forward to?
I thought this totem pole with its carvings was pretty amazing. I wonder how long ago it was made?
Here are some of the boys in Z's troop at the first of many stops on the first day of camp to learn the rules and what is expected of them.
I hope it is dry enough later in the week for them to play. This looks like fun!
The pool looks big! I hope it stops raining the rest of the week so they can have some fun swimming here.
Now this is one of the most important spots in all of Camp Arrowhead: The Weather Rock.
Read the instructions carefully! Every camper is expected to use this magic rock to tell what the weather is going to be.
Of course I'm writing all of this because I miss him and it's going to be a long week.
He's been to Cub Scout camp 2x but that was just for 3 days and 2 nights. Boy Scout camp is the big time, 7 days and 6 nights.
I miss him.
The house is eerily quiet and each noise the wind makes is too loud and the cats chasing each other from room to room thunders louder than it ever has because they are the only noise in the house.
I am so not ready to have an empty nest! Good thing he is only barely 11!
I hope the week is delightful for him, that he learns a lot, has lots of fun, creates lots of wonderful memories and most of all, survives!
Most of all, I hope the week goes quickly and he is back home soon.
Please keep him safe Lord.
Thanks for looking at my pictures!
All photos were taken with my canon rebel xti and a zoom lens.

I really liked the weather rock, it was both funny and informative!
Z will be home soon with lots of story's to tell you all about his camping experience. Maybe he'll be able to tell you all about the story behind the totem poll. Enjoy some you time and try to relax with a good book and a bubble bath :) He'll be home before you know it.
I see why the political left is threatened by the Boy Scouts, the Scouts teach responsibility, love of country and pursuit of faith, all things the left despises.
the weather rock is hillarious ;-)
he will be fine and will be home driving you nuts before you know it..enjoy your time while you have it ;-)
thank you!
I'm so glad to hear that you like them, thank you!
I know, he'll be fine, there are just too many what if's in the world for my comfort zone.
We did ride up to take some stuff he forgot yesterday.
He was great. He'd broken his glasses and my husband's one comment was, 'in just 2 days didn't he seem much more grown up?'
oh yes he did.
Glad to hear you enjoyed it!
thanks!
LOL
You made me laugh!
Maybe we should all invest in weather rocks for our front yards!
I hope you have a wonderful experience with the cub scouts!!
I agree with what you said about the Boy Scouts, we love what they teach
our son and I've been really impressed with the older scouts, the eagle scouts in our group and the great attitudes they have.
thanks!
Your grandpa? I'd never seen one before or even heard of one, that I can remember anyway.
they had great pics on display in the office. From the early days of the camp thru the late 50's, they were amazing!
They did used to use the lake as a swimming pool, even called it that on one of the pics.
thanks,
I'm trying!
glad to hear you can relate!
thanks, me too!
thank you for saying that, that is what I was hoping to do.
thanks!
*cringe sheepishly*
I know I should but it is all on my hard drive.
I have plastic boxes full of pics.
I don't know how to scrapbook, it looks to intimidating.
It brought back some fond memories. Our family used to work at a Boy Scout camp (for 6 summers). Some of the images are very familiar even though it wasn't the same camp.
thank you so much!!
what you said made my day!
thanks so much!
I'm glad to hear that I stimulated some good memories!!
