Judaism is not "Christianity Lite"

Elizabeth, I am so sorry you have encountered people who treated you in such a way. As a Christian, I have a deep respect for Judaism. You are God's Chosen People -- how could I not respect those who are chosen by the God I worship and revere? You are the natural born child, I am the adoptee. Please forgive those who forget that fact and behave inappropriately.

How sad?! I am a Christian. The more I study the Bible, the greater respect I have for Judaism. You are absolutely correct in stating that Judaism is a religion apart from Christianity. And I have found that the average Christian knows virtually nothing about Judaism. I have gone out of my way to learn about a lot of the customs and practices in light of the Old Testament scriptures. I have been a Christian since I was eleven (now 39 years) and just this year began studying passover. I was amazed at my ignorance! Communion is celebrated frequently in my denomination, but the no one has ever taught me the elements of a Passover meal. It really helped me to understand Christianity. How can you even understand what Christ is talking about if you don't understand Judaism? Duh??!! Good post!

Judaism has such a rich culture, I've always been drawn to it... all religions fascinate me... I don't understand why people can't just be open and curious instead of putting everything into a box?

Interesting to see the term used as you do. I am writing a book on Best Selling author Joel Osteen. His critics call him Christianity Lite. The implication is that he delivers too much of a "feel good" message. Never heard it applied as you are. Interesting and you make your point well.

I too am sorry, but the truth is that in order to understand Christianity, one must start with Judaism so they may have had in-depth study of your religion, which is quite true for most of the Ministry. You may feel this way because in the Christian religion, Judaism is a smaller part of the whole, while for the Jews it is the whole, this does not indicate disrespect of your religion, because all of us hold Jewish folk in great esteem, since their had to be something wonderful in you for you to be called God's Chosen.

However as Christians, our religion does not stop there, we must get a feel for your people, for your culture, for your languages, for all that you did that made you chosen as it is a part of our old Testament, or truthfully, our period of being Jews and Gentiles.

Then in the New Testament we became Christian, with a understanding of you. Therefore you are not Christianity Lite, you are the father of our Christianity, the older religion from which we must study in order to properly understand what the bible is saying. It gives us a clearer understanding of the world before our Christ.
