Ever heard of Geocaching? If someone had asked me a day ago, I would have said, "Me Neither!" However, now that I have heard of it, I want to share the fun with all of you. In simplest form, it is a treasure hunt using a handheld GPS. There is a website: www.geocaching.com that shows where the treasures are located based on longitude and latitude and then off you go.
We live in a small area, so when my husband suggested it, I figured there wouldn't be many around here. Well, there are over 3500 within 100 miles. We did two finds today and it was so much fun ! It was some exercise too, but you get so into it. Below, see our first real find. Once you find it, there is a log inside that allows you to add yourself to the list (as well as doing it online when you arrive back home), also there are little items and you can take one or two while leaving something else in return.

You can see from this next picture that there was plenty to choose from in this cache. This is definitely a family/kid friendly activity and once you have the GPS, very inexpensiv

My husband and I make our choice, a Geocachers Pin, add an item of our own and move on to the next one. When we arrive home, he posts his find and starts looking for our next adventure. Here is his pin:

Now you've got me intrigued again. Gotta google it.
I haven't done it, because I don't have a GPS. If I had one for other uses, I would try it:)

Jokes a side, it is a lot of fun and there is an investment upfront for the GPS but than it is just gas money and a few dollars for stuff to put in caches and you are all set. I can't wait for more hunts.
I've already done two!
