Backstory...
1) June 13 2007, Squidoo unveiled their lensmaster stats upgrade; Stats 2.0. With all the bells and whistles any self-respecting webmaster has come to expect with the likes of Webalizer and other web stats packages. But there's a few extra features that are associated with it that will both wow and woo Lensmasters as they begin to understand and take advantage of the data now at their finger tips (or mouse clicks).
2) If you're an Amazon Associate (affiliate) in which case Lensmasters are, in partnership with Squidoo, you don't just get commissions for the specific items you link to. If someone clicks on to another item linked from your original Amazon product page and they buy it, you get credited for the sale.
Becoming a Lensmaster Sharp Shooter...
Scenario 1
7 people in the last 30 days found one of my lenses via a Google search for "complete krav maga: the ultimate guide to over 200 self-defense and combative techniques".
Now that's one hell of a long search term, and I wouldn't think much of it, except the fact that it's the title of a book.
And my lens comes in second behind first placed Amazon.
With a little tweaking I have a chance of improving my search engine results.
How much more traffic does number 1 position get over number 2? Maybe a little. But this is about getting first bite at the cherry. Here we have a real person who is looking for information about a book, that they're likely to buy.
Either way Amazon wins, because they'll get the sale. But I'd like to be the person referring that sale.
Scenario 2
On the same lens, my stats reveal, someone has clicked on one of the Amazon ads that I specifically chose to complement the content of the lens, but they went on to buy "Dirty Dozen: 12 Nasty Fighting Techniques For Any Self-Defense Situation"
Data like this was not previously available to lensmasters and this information can be used to further monetize our lenses. It's like making a fine adjustment on the laser sights. I'd be crazy not to add the book to my Amazon module.
The power of recommendation works both ways, and now we have the ability to see what our visitors want. If we're willing to listen, analyse, interpret and implement what we learn we'll be far more effective lensmasters.
