I always ASSUMED this was a national day; perhaps it is only a local event in my driveway. I have lived in this house for 37 years and every year at the end of May, the hardy band of indestructible ants under my driveway come out to celebrate. I am not sure what they celebrate. Maybe that summer is almost here, maybe that they get to watch my useless efforts to stamp them out, I don't know.
Every year they give it their best shot at undermining my driveway. I am quite sure that day and night, the little fellows are scooping out antloads of dirt to deposit above ground. They worked overtime last night and perhaps that is the cause for celebration. They have piled up about a dozen small lumps of dirt and there are hundreds of ants dancing frantically around each pile.
I am curious as to why the celebration was postponed from its usual day around May 28th to June 13th this year. Maybe the ant queen has been ill and just recovered. They all appear to be extraordinarily happy or just on drugs. I had to leave this morning so didn't have time to go out and dampen the celebration with Ant and Roach Killer. I'll be back home in a couple hours to put an end to the good times.
Does anyone else have a ant swarming day? Or am I the only one blessed with such an event? If so, why me?

Now I kill them whenever I can find them. It's probably Ant PTSD of some kind.
I'm guessing he put that sugar on the side closest to my RV. LOL
I could try putting sugar out in the neighbor's yard. Or I could give them little road maps back to Jiya's house.
Ants get in through cracks in the foundation or slab flooring. Once those are sealed, you have no more problem. Unless, like one rental home that I had, they've created a home in the padding underneath your carpeting. Ewwwwww
My preference is to spray around the foundation of the house every spring, but my new partner is an ant lover and won't hear of it. I can't spray inside because we are both chemically sensitive. we also have a cat so I don't want to risk her with any little poison shacks etc. Last year we did well with the stakes you stick in the ground around the house, but this year they appear coming down the walls and down from the cupboards in the kitchen and bath.
I imagine this means the walls are full of them. Aaaarrrrrgggghhhh. PTSD is putting it mildly. I have a real phobia about ants.
Nicely written too.
And thanks to whoever suggested the grits. I plan to buy some tomorrow and dust the yard with them.
Debra just posted all those little ants to make me lose the last few shreds of my sanity.
No I am not the Queen. I don't think I am skittish and I am not British. You are certainly full of questions tonight!
Oh! I read tags too. LOL
Did you know that soapy water (Dawn and water) in a squirt bottle will kill ants?
