Although we LOVE photo essays (and will be featuring them on the home-page throughout the rest of the month) the points are given for photos you upload and publish as images. Hope this makes sense.
Everyone come comment on my images when I get them uploaded. I need the gift certificates. :)

You said IMAGE not images so, therefore, I assume that means you're looking at how many 10s EACH image has and not how many IMAGES carry an overall rating of 10.
To clarify my question even more...LOL Therefore drive-by 10s count?
To clarify some questions about the rating portion of this promotion.
We are not looking at the "average" rating, but rather the number of 10's each photo received.
So, as Dan mentioned if someone gives you a db 1 and that lowers your average, it doesn't matter. All that counts are the number of 10-ratings associated with any particular picture.
Wilma does a good job at clarifying above... we're looking at how many 10's each image gets... not the overall rating/score.

I believe that this questions was answered above somewhere... images uploaded to articles do NOT count. You must upload the images separately, to your 'Images by Me' page.
