Yoko Ono Opens Up About Night Of John Lennon's Death

HOLLYWOOD -- John Lennon was shot and killed outside his New York City apartment after deciding he wanted to return home to see his son rather than go out for dinner, Yoko Ono said in an interview broadcast Sunday. "We were returning from the studio, and I said: 'Should we go and have dinner before we go home?' and John was saying, 'No, lets go home because I want to see Sean before he goes to sleep.' And it was like he wasn't sure if we would get home before he (Sean) went to sleep and he was concerned about that." Ono, 74, the wife of the late Beatle, made the comment on "Desert Island Discs," the British Broadcasting Corp. radio program that interviews famous people and plays their favorite songs. She said Lennon uttered no dying words when he was shot and killed by deranged fan Mark Chapman outside their Dakota apartment building in Manhattan on Dec. 8, 1980.

I miss John Lennon.
He was a deep man who wanted a better society for all people.
John is being more loved over time.
We need more people like John Lennon today!

Thanks for the article. I have been playing "beautiful boy" for my grandsons... I know John was nuts about Sean.... his music will always keep him alive. And, his music is definite proof of his beautiful soul. Thank you John, for all you left us.

It's still just hard to understand why anyone would want this man dead - he gave so much to the world through his music. His intuition must have been what bubbled the urgent desire to get home to see his son that night. Does anyone know where the son is today?

I miss the Beatles they were far beyond all other groups, even the Beach Boys raced to catch up to the pure musical talent and genius; and the most beautiful music ever written.

this is interesting....and sad. But if truth be known, even had they gone to dinner, Chapman most likely would have been waiting for them...he was a man on a mission and wasn't going to be stopped.

In his Beatles Time I thought that I would prefer him for Paul McCartney...

During his solo though he's music was quite controversial and saying lots of odd thoughts, but somehow I know that he interpreted his musical composition to be just music... not really delving on the deeper meanings or the negative philosophy of what he was singing back then... though the notes were mirror of the experimentations of the time...

John Lennon from among the BEATLES was the radical one...
