While buying a cake already made from a store would save time, I prefer making and decorating my own. I'm not at the professional quality but more of the mom wanting to make my kids happy quality, which I think is the most important one to be *for me*.
Decorating a cake is a work of art all of its own.

You start with a blank canvas.

Sketch your outline on your canvas (look closely, it's there).

Mix your "paint"

Start painting.

Halfway point of "painting"

Add red sprinkles to make the face of your painting be a more red color.

Fill in the eyes of your painting

Do a line of black "paint" around the eyes

Add the design to your painting

Mix your next "paint" color

Finish background of your painting

Add a ribbon that goes around your cake at the edges. Make a note to self to use red frosting around edges next time to make it stand out more.
Take a moment to look at your work of art. Make any needed changes like removing the small blob of blue frosting on Spiderman's chin.

Give your work of art to someone who will truly enjoy it. Feel a swell of love as their face lights up.
