U.S. Mail on Saturday?

My local carrier at my work place told me that the U.S. postal service is considering cutting out the Saturday delivery of the mail.

What do you think?  Would your life be greatly affected if the Saturday delivery of the mail was gone?

 

I am on the fence about this one...I guess when I am waiting for a check payment from an Ebay customer I would want the mail on Saturday but....then again...just more bills in my mailbox on Saturday..who needs em.

Hmm-m-m-m. That is a two-edged sword, isn't it? I would hate to lose one more day when I'm down to the wire on mailing something. But if it would help hold the line on costs...

No. I think it ought to run 7 days a week. Its about conveinience. I wish more things were 7 days a week.

They did just raise rates again. How much more do they need to save?

I would say if they put a HOLD on the price of shipping/mailing then sure cut out Saturdays. However I normally mail things on Saturdays! But in all fairness I think postal people should be able to have weekends off like some of us do..
Guess I would have to say that I am unsure at this point!!

Saturday is the only day that lots of people can make it to the post office. Maybe if they want Saturday off they should stay open longer during the week so people who work can get there before they close.

I think it is a crazy idea. Personally, the post office is charging more and doing less. We need to be served and if they don't want to do it, then private companies will. Just my thoughts !

I often need to go to the post office on Saturday - hope that stays open.
I expect my mail 6 days a week, but it used to be 7 and sometimes twice a day - during holiday season when I was a kid.
So they'll charge more and give less service...
nothing new.

Doesn't bother me to eliminate Saturday delivery...one less day I'll get junk mail and bills.

Sound like another government service that thinks it exists for the convenience of the business community. I think they should raise the rates for junk mail. I know this would cut down on the number of postal carriers, but it would cut down on the time I spend sorting mail and consigning the unopened junk to the recycling box. It would also cut down on the time I must spend shredding the junk that identity thieves would love to get their hands on.

I wouldn't mind not getting delivery on saturday - but I would be irritated if I couldn't go to the post office and mail stuff out on saturdays. That's usually when I have the time to go!

Considering 95% of my mail is junk mail wouldn't miss it. But with all the rate raises they've gotten seems post office could be doing a lot better. Why not let FEDEX and UPS handle first class mail.

Since I rarely get anything besides a bill or an ad, it wouldn't make much difference. I would have to get used to it though; it's just something you expect.

I would miss getting my mail on Saturday. It's the only day I'm home when the mail comes, so I look forward to taking a break from house cleaning to sort through the mail. I can wait for bills, but I would miss getting my next Netflix movie on Saturday.

Some people that work all week find that the only time they can get to the post office is on Saturday. So if they cut out delivery will they also close the post offices? If so, then I'm against it. Keep the Saturdays!

As long as they have the post offices open on Saturday I could live with it. At the same time it would impact the postal workers either in overtime cuts or lay offs and I wouldn't be for that.

Monday through Friday is fine by me. Give the letter carriers Saturday off. Keep costs low. I think this would be a step in the right direction... to slow down the pace of a too hurried Americana.

It was bad enough years ago when "to improve efficiency" they increased the number of days a letter was expected to get from point A to point B.
Now they want to "improve service" more by providing it one less day a week?
This on the eve of their latest rate increase?

They raised the postage rate and now want to delete service? I was hoping they were going to deliver on Sundays too!!!! What a sweet job. The drive from mailbox to mailbox and GOD forbid if a car is semi blocking them they will not deliver the mail. I say HELL NO to stopping delivery on Saturdays UNLESS>>>UNLESS>>>UNLESS they lower the postage rates!

I use the post office on Saturday mornings way too often. I like to have that done to start the next week off with one more thing checked off the to do list.
