So, are you a packrat and love to keep everything that comes into your office or home?
or are you a neat freak and read the mail and newspaper and immediately throw it away or any other items that come into your life?
I am such a packrat trying to be a neat person. I am married to a man that is the cleaner and neat person that I would love to be. I think that it is a genetic problem personally.
How do you become a neat person if you are a packrat?

You can be a packrat and still be a neat person, as illustrated by this article I wrote on a Seattle packrat: DIY Decorating: Collective Inspiration.
Another way to still be neat as a packrat is to use decorative containers and shelving to hold all of the piles. I use plain brown boxes that I pick up at the craft store, or old shoe boxes, to paint to match the color of the room and store odds and ends.
I am not a clean freak as much as I used to be, but I am still highly organized, I know where everything I have is located. Guess I am saying I am more neat than I am clean. I used to be nuts with OCD , grew up with a neat freak Mom. Thought it was normal. I was obsessed during my first marriage. Now, I feel more balanced but I do feel nervous STILL at times when things are out of order. I fight it. I've come a long way.
When I do go visit my Mother, she won't let us in with our shoes on and she sweeps while we are still there and she can't enjoy life much. I don't too much enjoy to visit her. I would say it is better not to be TOO clean because of her. Has anybody seen MOMMY DEAREST? LOL
Now when I do go visit her, my kids and I have secret codes for when we want to leave and my 16 year old daughter jokes "I'm down with OCD" instead of that song that says "I'm down with OPP".
LOL
Living with a neat freak has helped a lot. But in the areas where he doesn't go, I have gotten worse than usual. My closet and bathroom are terrible!
