Breaking news this week, Arkansas Game & Fish's plan to introduce an alligator hunting season has been approved. Yes we have alligators here!
This is an experimental hunt for the time being, and will last one year. Permits will be required and regulations are as follows:
-Alligators "harvested" (harvested hmmm...odd wording) must be at least four feet long in length. One alligator only.
-Night hunting is allowed from one half hour after sunset to one half hour before sunrise.
-Hunters must be at least 16yrs of age to apply for license
-Non-residents may participate as assistants to hunter.
-Hunter can have 3 assistants.
There are several other application requirements that are outlined on the Fish and Game website

I am not a hunter, in fact I am not a huge meateater having been raised vegetarian (much of that vegan). I have only been eating meat a few years. I must admit that when I first saw the headline in a news publication I thought that they meant permits for keeping pet alligators.
I am not sure what to think about about this return to alligator hunting.
Please feel free to leave your thoughts below.
