HOLLYWOOD – After a controversial season and months of speculation, ABC has confirmed Isaiah Washington will not be returning to "Grey's Anatomy" next season. After a getting a call from "Grey's" boss Shonda Rhimes telling him he would not be back, Isaiah told Access Hollywood he was "mad as hell and not going to take it anymore."The controversy intensified for Washington after using an anti-gay epithet backstage at the Golden Globe Awards in January while denying he'd used it previously on the set against cast mate T.R. Knight. Gay rights groups and cast member Katherine Heigl, who publicly denounced Washington, were among his most vocal critics. Washington tried to make amends and said he was seeking therapy. He also met with officials from the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network and the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation and filmed a public service announcement in which he said "words have power" to hurt or heal. The May finale of "Grey's Anatomy" opened the door for the departure of his character. Burke was on the verge of marrying Dr. Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh), but her doubts at first delayed and then derailed their splashy wedding. Later, Yang found that Burke cleared out his favorite possessions from their apartment. How do you feel about this new development?

that show. I viewed it once;and
that was once to many for me.
While I do not condone his actions leading up to his going into therapy, I think we are losing our free speech in this country.
I don't watch the show but he was just one other dumb actor that because he makes millions and then makes a comment; everyone blows it out of proportion because they think he knows what he is talking about. They are actors and actresses for Goodness sake; not rocket scientists.
By the way; I am so glad Paris Hilton is out of jail. Maybe they won't say about Anna Nicole Smith over the weekend? One can only hope.
Say it isn't so. I loved his character. I was quite upset that the wedding did not happen.
That being said, in the on-screen world, I do think the departure of Burke is disappointing for the show; same with the departure of Addison. I think there were still potential story lines with both characters that were not yet explored.
Actually, what matters more is that he sounds like an ass in real life, which means more than any character played on tv.
I found Washington's acting unremarkable although it was no better nor worse than that of the other cast members. His character had no distinguishing characteristics.
