I didn't bring my camera to the park, but I did bring my cell phone. The result of the camera is not always in sharp focus, but it has a decent 640x480 resolution and that's good enough for the casual photo. Unlike my previous trip to the park which was rained out after four pitches, the weather was clear and cool. Any wind was behind us and thus for the most part blocked by the stands.
I stayed for the game until the end of the 8th inning, when the Ducks put in a new pitcher with one of those odd pitching styles who then started a conga line of hitters that managed to score seven runs in a row. Seeing no response and no chance for possible redemption I made the first early egress from a ballpark (other than leaving when the game was officially cancelled on account of rain) in my life.
(Central Islip, N.Y., June 6, 2007) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Bridgeport Bluefish on Wednesday 7-1 in front of 5,903 fans at Citibank Park. The Bluefish leapfrogged the Ducks in the standings and took a half-game lead in the North Division.
Bridgeportput up seven runs in the eighth inning to break up what had been a tremendous pitcher's duel over the first seven innings. The Bluefish sent 11 men to the plate in the eighth, highlighted by a pair of two-RBI singles by Jay Caligiuri and Nick Ortiz. The Ducks manufactured a run in the seventh without the benefit of a base hit to grab a 1-0 lead, as a leadoff walk to Edgardo Alfonzo culminated in a sacrifice fly by Ray Navarrete to plate the game's first score.
Mike Porzio (4-1) pitched seven strong innings for Bridgeport, allowing just one run on four hits. Long Island starter John Halama (2-2) took the loss for the Ducks, allowing two unearned runs on five hits in seven and one-third innings of work. The Bluefish bullpen combo of Franklin Perez and Steven Kent sealed the Bridgeport victory, facing the minimum six batters over the final two frames of the contest.
