Worse Things Than Being Poor...

There are worse things than being poor. I often discuss this with my students when they get down about the things they don't have. We talk about countries where things like running water and education are luxuries. I am sure that many of you agree with me that there are worse things than being poor. Can you help me make a list? I think it will make everyone more grateful for what we have!

Yes, I agree there are worse things than being poor. I think worse would be to live a life of negativism. To allow priceless opportunities to pass by just because of attitude, that is sad.

Being rich and never enjoying life, I really envy the poor who find joy in just a smile what good is champaign and designer clothes if you never are allowed to dance naked in the moonlight!

I think most people don't really have a true grasp of what "poor" is. They may come from a middle class family and think they're 'poor' compared to the guy who just bought a hummer, but there's still food on the table every night and they have clothes to wear to school. If only most people could experience what it's like to be truly 'poor' for a few days...
being without family or friends is worse
lack of freedom is worse
What's worse than being poor? Bondage, slavery, imprisonment, lack of hope, despair, degradation, depression, disease, i could go on and on ... Being poor is nothing, poor can be risen above, other things cannot be risen above as easily. I've been poor, I've scraped and scrounged, but I gathered friends and I gathered an education, I had fun with my friends, I got a better job, I was no longer poor. Poor, I think, is a state of mind, an adverb, an adjective, only applicable if you allow it to be.

I have good insurance and enough money to supplement anything else right now, but it doesn't mean that the doctors are able to beat this cancer that I have right now!
