So I've made it into the spin room with my fellow bloggers. It's good to meet these people, some of whom I have been sparring with over the last few weeks. We're much more polite to each other in person. :) Prior to coming to the spin room, I took a walk down to the rally area, where supporters were holding signs and chanting out for their candidates. From the distance, above all others, I heard the chant for Ron Paul. Getting down to the area, I could see why - Paul supporters outnumbered all the other candidates' supporters, and were more vocal and enthusiastic. A Mitt Romney supporter brought a bull horn, but was having a hard time matching the volume of the Ron Paul supporters. It looked like there were a few hundred Ron Paul supporters there. He has certainly picked up a lot of enthusiasm from the last debate.
Maybe this is because the mainstream media is finally paying some attention to him after Giuliani attacked him at the last debate for daring to suggest that our foreign policy should be looked at. Giuliani stated that he had never heard of such an idea. In response, Dr Paul later gave Giuliani a reading list that included the 9/11 commission report, backing up Dr Paul's position. This lead to interviews on CNN, the Daily Show, Fox News, Bill Maher, tons of radio shows, etc.
Now, I have spent 17 years in the Air Force, with much of my "fighting time" under Bill Clinton. I spent quite a bit of time in Saudi Arabia prior to the second Gulf War, and the idea of blowback was clearly understood by myself and my crewmembers. In fact, we all knew that the Saudi's wanted to hide us as much as possible because there was a lot of animosity for our being there. This lead to the bomgings of the Khobar towers, which I had been in two weeks prior!!! So I've had the idea of blowback in my mind ever since. What Giuliani finds "astonishing" is really just common sense.
I'm eager to see if Dr Paul mixes it up again tonight!
