Cell Phones

Cell Phones are nice I guess in the case of emergencies or as needed, but I get somewhat annoyed at cell phone users.  People have no regard for those around them. Whether it be while eating out or at a doctor, people's phones are ringing and people are talking into them. The topper was the day I was in a store restroom and someone in a stall was talking while using the restroom. I think it is pure madness at times. I mean are there no places that are off limits? What about in a state where it is illegal to drive while talking on them, but people completly ignore the law and continue pulling in front of others or not paying attention at light changes. I am sure some of you feel that people overreact to cell phone use, but you'd be surprised how many events they ruin and worse yet, how many people are injured. I think they have a place, don't get me wrong, but don't you think full grown adults should understand the limits?

I agree they should start teaching cell phone etiquette in school.

That is a good idea, gaelyn. I can't believe we even have to talk about it. It seems so obvious when it's appropriate to use your cell phone and when not to.

I had someone on their cell phone the other day discussing someone's rash. I had my ipod on and could still hear them!

I think that the real danger is in schools where kids are texting and calling all day long no matter how much monitoring we do. After all, do we know what they are telling each other ?
I have my own cell phone manners.
I will not answer my cell phone if at the cash register in the store.
IF I answer the phone in a store, which is very rare. It is only to let someone know I will call them back and am busy.
I never use my cell phone while out to eat. I do not want to hear someone else's phone conversation, so I assume they do not want to hear mine.

I turn my phone off in restaurants, at the doctor's, in classes, in church, etc. so it won't go off and disturb anyone. I let voice mail pickup and then I check for messages every so often. I do leave my cell phone on at work so my grandkids who are home alone at my house can call me in case of an emergency. But where I work, it isn't a problem if my phone rings. All the people there have cell phones and mine rings less often than anyone else's. I do leave my cell phone on in a large store so if I can't find my husband I can call him and ask where he is.

I'm amazed I got to be this old without one. I know six year olds who have them. Amazing. I agree, they are a great invention for emergencies and the like, but you don't need one literally hanging on your ear 24/7.

I too am appalled when people use their cell phone in the restroom. One of these days the phone will slip when they reach over to flush....

Amy thats when you clap!!! lol Seriously ... I am a cashier in a major grocery chain ... it is SOOOOOOO very annoying to have a customer in the checkout talking on the phone when i am TRYING to ask them questions about their order ... and they ALL act like it is a MAJOR inconvience that I interupt their phone conversation ... I had one customer tell me to wait that they were on the phone ... I politely (well sort of) that the people behind her didn't have time for me to wait on her to finish her conversation ... she told her party that she had to go because she had a rude cashier bossing her around ... I just smiled!!!!

People are not very understanding about the
use of cell phones. They know the rules when
driving in a car they are not supposed to use
the cell phone but lots of adult people do plus
the teenagers have them glued to their ears.
I've seen many near misses for fender benders
because of the cell phone abuse going on.

I have to admit, I use my cell phone alot. I do, however, try to use some manners. #1, if I have a cell phone in my car when I was driving, I had it attached to a hands free earpiece, and that was only to answer calls, in case somebody was trying to reach me. #2. I turn my phone off during programs and events and movies. anything else would be completely rude. #3 If I am riding with somebody, or out with a friend, I will answer the phone long enough to tell somebody I will call them later. #4 I set my phone to ring differently on unknown and 800 number calls, so I can just hit a button if I am not expecting a call like that.
Thanks to my children, I have sadly become one of those people you hate! If they are not with me, my phone is growing out of my ear with their incessant calls! I always answer when they do, because I'm a worrier and my first thought is "What if something's happened". They no this! And so they just call at will and drive me insane!

why people feel free to drop any courtesy when using their cells is beyond me. and I love the people especially who are having really personal conversations in a crowd, like what kind of kama sutra position they did last night, its like can you take it to your car or somewhere private please?

i have a cell phone but dont use it much when im out except emergencys usually but love to talk on it at home, i also go into certain plces and put it on vibrate, and i agree the drivers is the worse if people could stay off them while they drive maybe thered be less accidents..
