I just read an article in the news about Texas being the biggest carbon emitter in the union. Sheesh. They blame Texas for putting in more coal burning plants to make our electricity and that is causing more global warming. Do most people realize how huge Texas is as a state? We have a lot of people here! Do most people realize we make electricity for other states and our refineries make fuel for all of our cars? Yes, the refineries do use more electricity for their plants, but hey, we have to have fuel for our cars. And, other smaller states produce more carbon emissions than other larger states for this reason, too. I think the global warming issue is something people are embracing and taking to heart when this issue has been on-going for over a hundred years. I question how meteorologists can predict the weather 100 years from now, when they can't even correctly predict the weather ten days from now! It kind of makes me wonder what all the excitement is about.

You don't know the difference between climate and weather? This may help:
http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/noaa-n/climate/climate_weather.html
You may not be aware that TCU recently decided to scrap plans for 8 new coal power plants - due to outcry from the citizens of Texas!!! You may also be aware that Texas leads the nation in wind energy. It is true that Texas produces twice the carbon emissions as California, but instead of get defensive about it, why not try to do something about it?
You haven't said you do, and you get defensive about the very unfortunate fact that Texas does emit a significant percent of the nation's CO2. You justify that instead of write about what you do yourself to reverse that. So if you do something to reduce Texas' CO2 emissions, write about it - that would be interesting reading.
You're right, of course, about TXU (not TCU). But you still don't know the difference between climate and weather, and apparently are not interested in the difference from your response. That may be why I think you may not be aware of these other facts. Again, why be defensive?

If so, you seem to have left out this part in your justifications for TX being cited as the nation's largest CO2 polluter:
"Texas, the leader in emitting this greenhouse gas, cranks out more than the next two biggest producers combined, California and Pennsylvania, which together have twice Texas' population."
"'There's no question that some states have made choices to be greener than others,' said former top Energy Department official Joseph Romm, author of the new book 'Hell and High Water' and executive director of a nonprofit energy conservation group."
Barbara: "I'm not defensive on this issue."
Certainly, you are! Your article is a defense.
Barbara: "I conserve energy where possible and I don't think I would have to defend my position in doing so. I would imagine that my thermostat is set higher than most people's in the summer and cooler in the winter, and we have a heat pump that heats and cools our home, also."
If you're going to attack others (e.g., Gore), then it's legitimate to ask what you do personally to address your own use of energy. And what you "imagine" is irrelevant. Either you are raising your thermostat in summer and lowering it in winter, or you're not. I don't know about heat pumps, so I have no way to know if that is a conservation device or not.
Barbara: "What I disliked about the article was the headline which is inflamatory to the fact that the President is a resident of this state."
And why do you take offense at that? Surely, you're not enthused to have argueably the worst president in U.S. history come from your state. Or maybe you're one of the 28% or so, who still support him. But as this article is about Texas being the largest CO2 polluter in the nation, it would be more productive to deal with the facts. There are alternatives in Texas. As I have mentioned, Texas also leads the nation in production of wind energy. Rather than whine about an article, I wish you would look for ways to improve Texas' situation. I also gave you a link to the EPA green energy locator, so you could personally try to improve your state's record.
Barbara: "The photo of Speaker Pelosi standing in front of the melting glacier is yet another liberal ploy to cast aspersions on the President in my opinion."
Wow - you are a 28%-er! Oh well.... There's no need for a "liberal ploy to cast aspersions on the (p)resident." If you've followed the Republican debates, the candidates are doing plenty of that! BTW, the glaciers are melting, and Pelosi did visit Greenland. Did w.?
Argue? I'm just presenting facts that challenge your very right-wing proclamations. I can see you don't like being challenged, and you have no answers for the challenges.
Re: the growing glacier, I just referenced your own article!!! Even it counters the point you're trying to make about climate change.
So don't "argue", but also, don't think that you can make your proclamations without being challenged.
