Maggie is our beagle mix dog that we got from a pet rescue on Sunday. She is a sweet and loving dog, but totally submissive. We were told that she was hit by car, but I don't think that's true. Maggie does have healing injuries to her right front leg, but I doubt it is from a car. She is not scared of cars, but she is scared of men. My husband can call her and scare the pee out of her, literally.
Now comes my problem....she scares easily and she pees when she gets scared. Help! How do I cure this? Though we were told she was house trained, she really isn't. I'm working on it, but when she squats in the house to pee, I'm at a loss. I grabbed her tonight to stop her from starting, scared her so bad that she peed all everywhere....all the way to the kitchen. My Shotbot really got used tonight. Now that I've repremanded her, she won't come to me except in a belly crawl. I'm at a complete loss...I'm sure some one out there can help me.

My brother helped me to get her over it.... used to meet me outside the house (so it didn't matter if she peed) and take her for a walk .... mostly had to drag her at first because she was SOOOOOOOO terrified of him. But he persisted, and once she got over her fear of him, she was able to cope with MOST other males as well .... once in awhile we would pass someone on the street that she would instantly DETEST ... but I came to trust her judgment.
It seems like your best bet might be to invest in a crate - there is lots of information about crate training .... might make all the difference.
I know it's difficult but try not to yell at her or approach her suddenly until she understands that she is safe, and that you won't hurt her even if you have to reprimand her. I would do as gaelyn said, and take her out every hour, until she gets used to peeing outside, and then take her out every two hours, and then three hours, and so on, and she will understand that you are not angry that she pees, only that she should do it outside.
I'm sorry this has been difficult, but I congratulate you for giving a loving home to this beautiful dog, who sure sounds like she needs it.
Good luck. Wish I was there to help you in person!
Oh one more thing, let the husband mix dry and moist dog food together with his hands and feed her, she'll get the idea that he's good, he's got food plus dogs have a great sense of smell and the food will have his scent on it. A great way to bond with a dog!
