What do YOU think about Tink?

As in Peter Pan's Tinkerbell. Do you like her? Why/why not?

Is she good? bad?

I will likely have other questions about her later - but in the meantime, if you wouldn't mind giving me your impressions of her, I would really appreciate it! (Yup, homework time again!)

Have you read Fairy Dust and the Quest for the Egg by Gail Carson Levine? It's another take on Tink and quite a good book. I read it aloud to my daughter and we both thoroughly enjoyed it and are now reading the entire Disney Fairies series.

Tinkerbell is awesome. She's cute and can make tons of things happen. And that book sounds pretty good. I'll have to check it out.

I think Tink is a spoiled little fairy. She did things to Wendy that were mean and calculated.

I think I am the frustrated Tinkerbell sometimes. I have been there. Backing some guy up with my talents....only to watch him fall for some Wendy.

Now I make my OWN magic.

Imagine if I had wings and a wand. I would be dangerous to know.

I have the original Peter Pan on the coffee table, waiting for the perfect summer day to be read in my hammock swing. I ordered it after reading a review by Wurdzgurl where she mentioned some crass things Tink had to say.

I love crass fairies.

My other thought is that Tinkerbell was a warning.

Don't be cute, smart and sexy too. Boys like Peter cannot handle that. So leave the boys to the Wendy's of the world.

I am not saying Wendy was bad. NO. But she was more unreal to me than Tinkerbell. See if you aren't angry when you allow your emotions and talent be squandered. Not saying she was right....but surely more human and more real. And in the end she did the right thing. Rescue yet another helpless Disney heroine and her own expense.

but then again. I don't see Wendy on Disney Couture now. hee. just kidding.

I meant at her own expense. And I don't know if it was the right thing to do.....I guess it was the proper thing.....I dunno.

I wonder if Barrie intended her to be sexy? Will have to look for that when I finish reading the original (I faked it in class today) ... I do know his description of faeries is not at all like the disney version of Tink... that is to be the subject of my kidLit essay, I think

Tinkerbell is cute as a button, but I think she's a little underhanded and manipulative if I remember correctly.

I love Tink, she was passionate, a little on the onery side and showed her true self.

As a child I loved her. We use to go to Disneyland and watch her fly down from the top of the Matterhorn at night. A very exciting event for a child.

As a child, I always clapped to save her life. But as an adult, I see her a bit differently. She's one of the first characters Disney allowed to be very human. Jealous, spiteful, vengeful, and full of frailties. Usually the characters are all bad/all good. But she was an interesting mix. I wouldn't say I "loved" her as an adult, but I sympathized with her position in Peter's life. ;o)

I really appreciate the input, everyone! you've given me all kinds of ideas to explore for my paper.... oh, and hubby thought of something too .... I had forgotten.... Walt Disney used to sit at his desk and talk to Tink when he was introducing Sunday Night's Disney show... and she was part of the opening and closing too

Tinkerbell is a spiteful and willful little minx, but her passion and high spirits are intoxicating. She's an Impulsive imp who relies on her feminine wiles to get her out of trouble.. .Gotta love that ! Mischievous and Lovely, and full of determination...she's one of the most multifaceted charachters Disney brought to the screen in the early years. ( in later years the females were more interesting than the early years.)
I once read her figure was modeled after Marilyn Monroe...not sure if that 's true.

I haven't seen anything with Tinkerbell in it for so long . . .I do remember as a child I was confused by her. She seemed kind of like the friend that stabbed you in the back. Sometimes I thought she was mean, other times I understand when her feelings were hurt and she would 'act out'. I guess good old Walt decided to create a three-dimensional character in a cartoon. Interesting!

Good question. Can I assume this is also someting for one of your classes?

Yep, Trish! I have to do an essay which involves any one of our assigned texts, and contemporary media.... Barrie's Peter Pan and how Disney presents the story for example.... or the book and the movie Neverland, which is what I was originally going to do .... but she doesn't want a opinion on how well/not it was done or anything like that.... and I wasn't coming up with much of a thesis that I was happy with.

during our class discussion, one girl made a comment about Tink .... which interested me.... so started to think about how I might focus on just her... how Barrie wrote fairies has SO little to do with what many of us think of Tink .... thought it might be a more interesting essay to work on.

Hubby & I were talking about it the other night - I was telling him about people's responses here - and we came up with the title Tinkering with Tink
