As some of you may or may not know my husband is a volunteer fireman. Early Monday morning our neighbor's garage was lost to a fire. When his pager went off at 3am and he went running out the door he was followed by his big brother, who is currently staying with us. From our house it looked like the trailer itself was on fire, and the first thought of both my husband and his brother was to make sure the family was out. They were headed toward the door when the family yelled from across the yard that they were out and safe. So my husband turned around and ran to our garage to get his fire gear out of the van. When he returned a few minutes later he saw the homeowner and another fireman who had arrived going into the house. His brother was headed that way as well, and my husband realized they were going back for the dogs so he ran to help. The four of them worked quickly to grab the 2 dogs and transfer the 3 2-week-old puppies to a cage and were all out again in less than a minute and a half. My brother-in-law and the homeowner ran with the dogs to the other side of the yard while my husband and the other fireman ran the other way - around the house to the garage which was fully engulfed in flames. But before they parted, my brother in law turned to his LITTLE brother (LOL) to tell him "I love you!"
Later in the day, my brother in law posted a message to my husband in a myspace bulletin for everyone to read. This is what he wrote:
Lil' bro..........I just wanted to let you know just how much I'm proud of you and love you! You are the kind of bro that defines the word FAMILY. I was standing there this morning after we got the puppies out of the trailer, just watching you with that fire and I felt how much you mean to me. I know I don't say it enough..but I LOVE YOU and I got your back no matter what this world throws at our family. Love Big Brother Jim!

I know how blessed I am to have such a wonderful and generous husband, and I am glad that I can share some of that to bless others as well.
But Im gonna say this: I think this is what they would've wanted, you know Patrick an Jimmy's mom an dad....an I know their both looking down from heaven smiling....this is what they wanted i'm sure. For both their kids to be there for each other an have each others back....an stick together through the hard times.
Maybe thats what sisters an brothers are for wether their real family or not.
