So it has been at least a week since I have given an update on how I am doing not smoking.
I am into Day 21 of not smoking.. and by that I mean not even one puff of a cigarette.. no cheating nothing...
It has been quite hard quitting and still is hard... I would have though by now my days of being an addict would be so far behind me, but there are still times I get cravings like it was my first quit day. I just keep telling myself that I do not need them and that I do not need to listen to my addict self and the excuses cuz I can make this work.
I have not had the cough people talk about.. not sure why, but I am glad that I have not had it.. I do get a little anxious, ok so I get a lot anxious when the cravings hit, but I will continue to work through them.
I just wanted to let everyone know my progress and I guess now that I have gone this long, I feel like the gather community here is my support other than here at home... I don't want to let anyone down, and in the next couple of weeks will be very trying on me as my oldest graduates and heads to basic training.
I appreciate you all for helping me out with this horrible habbit and trying to officialy break myself from it.
20 days, 1 hour, 19 minutes and 6 seconds smoke free.
602 cigarettes not smoked.
$154.50 and 4 days, 14 hours of your life saved.

Even when the going's gotten tough you've stuck to it!
You should be very proud of yourself!
!
Thanks Cindi
You should not have to suffer horribly to do this. It is not good for you.
My grandma quit smoking after 50 years!!! she did it with the patch and never went back. Unfortunately she waited until she had already had a heart attack...but I know quitting gave her another 10 years of life. I don;t know ho young you are, but if you are not coughing that may be a very good sign that you quit before any lasting damage has occured.
Your lungs and body are healing from years of abuse...hang in there and imagine those nice clear, clean lungs as you take meditating deep breaths!!!
Now think if you lived in NJ, cigarettes are $60 to $65 a carton there!
Mandi.. I am taking chantix... and it is helping tremendously.. I would not have gotten this far without it.. and after 20 days, I prefer not to put nicotine back into my system again... It will get better as time goes on, I just have to keep telling the addict part of me to go away... I have tried the patch and gum before and they did not help at all... But the Chantix is working.. but the cravings are still there.. My body is learning to do things without having that smoke and nicotine in my system and after smoking for 20 years, it will take time to get my mindset changed for the better. Thanks for the encouragement...
btw.. I am using pretzels as my replacement when the cravings are really really bad.. and this week I still have not gone through the bag yet, so that must be a good sign.
Congrats on doing this for yourself!
