Hookah smoking may pose same risk as cigarettes

Hookah ?? That is a new word for me . I am thinking what the heck is this ? So I read on and I am shaking my head .Until the last day or two I had never even heard of this practice of smoking tobacco from a water pipe. I guess it just proves that you can learn something new everyday no matter how old you get .

Hookahs are commonly used in the Middle East and Africa. You see them in almost every tea house and cafe. My husband brought one home from Saudi Arabia about 28 years ago and it sat in our family room. We finally chucked it during a renovation recently. It was a good conversation piece, but we never actually used it.

We have a huge Middle Eastern / Arabic population where I live, and we have several hookah cafes, bars, and supply houses. It's become quite the rage, even with non-arabic teens. It's the hot new craze and there have been lots of articles in the papers about the health risks. Kids think that because the tobacco is flavored it's not as dangerous, but it's worse. The smoke is concentrated and because it tastes better they're doing a lot more smoking than they would otherwise.

When I was a smoker I would of liked to try that hookah! It looks like an enjoyable relaxing thing to do. I am so glad though that smoking is not my thing for the past 25 years. Wow it has been that long. Hurray for me!
