Child Found Hanged, Alive Near 3 Dead Children, Adult in Texas TrailerTuesday, May 29, 2007
HUDSON OAKS, Texas — This is a developing story. Please refresh your page for more details
The bodies of a 23-year-old woman and her four small daughters were found hanging in a closet in their mobile home Tuesday morning.
All of them were dead, except for an 8-month-old girl, who was taken to a hospital, and is in good condition, Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler told FOX News around noon ET.
The infant was taken to Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth.
The dead woman's sister, who also lived in the Oak Hills mobile home park, about 25 miles west of Fort Worth, found the bodies, Fowler said. She came over to the house to find out why her sister hadn't left for work that day.
"Upon entering the residence, she had discovered what went on over here," Fowler said. "She heard some noises, she found the 8-month-old, it was still alive, she took it down."
He said the dead children were ages 5, 3 and 2. The children had all had been hanged with strips of clothing and sashes, Fowler said.
"It's terrible, terrible," he said.
Fowler told FOX News there was no sign of struggle but officials still won't talk about any leads or motive they have for the killings.
Fowler said the hangings appeared to be murder-suicide, but the investigation was still under way.
"I'm not prepared to say exactly what occurred over here," Fowler said.
The sheriff's office is leading the investigation and is being aided by county officials, Texas Rangers, and the local medical examiner.
"It will be some later until we find out exactly what happened," Fowler said.
Neighbors in the rural community of 1,600 were stunned. Less than five years earlier, another Hudson Oaks family was torn apart when Dee Etta Perez, 39, shot her three children, ages 4, 9 and 10, before killing herself.
The young mother and her girls were last seen alive Monday evening, he said. She was believed to be separated from her husband, who Fowler said has been notified of the deaths.
"I just got a big kick out of watching the kids play over there on her porch, and today it's sad, very sad," said neighbor Joyce Harris.
Texas has seen a disturbing number of child killings by mothers in recent years.
Andrea Yates drowned her five children in the family's Houston bathtub in 2001. In 2003, Deanna Laney beat her two young sons to death with stones in East Texas, and Lisa Ann Diaz drowned her daughters in a Plano bathtub. Dena Schlosser fatally severed her 10-month-old daughter's arms with a kitchen knife in 2004.
All four of those women were found innocent by reason of insanity. Yates initially was convicted of capital murder, but it was overturned on appeal.

How tragic is this? And each of the previous are blamed on "postpartum depression." I can't believe that. I love my children too much to kill them all like these women did. What is your take on it? Do you believe postpartum depression would drive you or any other woman to this point?

I'm not excusing this behavior, but I have to wonder where was the rest of her family and did they not notice a change in her behavior, appearance, etc?
I just wish these crazy bitches would off themselves - FIRST. Helluvalot more innocents would be saved.
Damn.
Another thing that gets my goat: they are referring to the 8 month old as "it!" I mean, c'mon, male or female. At 8 months old, it shouldn't be a mystery, right?!?
I know the feelings of PPD, but have never been to this extreme. I could not imagine doing anything remotely close to anything like this. Ugh. I am stammering for what I really want to say here, as this story has just stunned and shocked me.
These are not the exact words I would have used, but I so totally agree...

Makes me want to run home and hug my wife and daughters right now...
I have to agree with Charlene. They are spoiled and don't really want to be mothers.
I would want to seek help for depression, but I don't want to be bound to pills for the rest of my life. Sometimes those make things worse instead of better, what with the side effects an all. And if you don't think pills or professional help will do the trick, then give the kids away for an opportunity to make a better life.
Michael, you go home and do just that! They will be thrilled to know their daddy loves them in word and deed.
I couldn't imagine what was going through these people's heads!!!
I hope the baby can recover somehow from this...the baby hopefully won't remember any of this, and can lead a healthy, normal (as possible) life. He/she is a survivor for some reason we'll find out later in his/her life I'm sure.
As for depression, it needs to be treated. And if family knows of one on medication for this type of situation then I think they need to be monitored to make sure that meds are taken and things are progressing well.
As for not being accountable for their actions, (I'm opening a huge can of worms) if our justice system would stick with capital punishment and carry out the death sentence immediately on those who murder, then even PPD would not occur as much, I believe. How many years have mothers been having children. And I know of a nation who strove to keep their children when demanded that they be put to death. (Read the story of Moses) But America has come a long way and turned so much from its roots that this is what we see in the news, along with (yes, I am going to say it) abortion being a legal right.
I am not making light of depression. I have a family member who is maniac depressive. And I have seen him take charge of his life and turn around his attitude to the point that he didn't need the meds any longer. Depression has alot to do with your attitude, inner being (Spiritual walk with God), and reaction toward circumstances. Life will come, it is all in how you handle each situation and where you turn for help.
Also, I noticed when you typed the correct term for manic depression, that I had typed "maniac." Believe me, it was a typo and not trying to be funny.
This is exactly why I do not read the papers, watch the news, or USUALLY listen to friends/family that are wanting to tell me what all happened on the news. I utterly cannot stomach this kind of behavior. I am not a believer in the post partum bullcrap. It's a danged cop out to me. Stress has been around for years and I'm sorry, you didn't hear of our grandmothers killing our parents because they just couldn't take it anymore. The one phrase that really pissed me off in the above article was the policeman "not being prepared to say what exactly went on over her"... are you freaking kidding me? It's so very very obvious. Maybe I'm wrong and I'm sure there'll be plenty of yes there is a such thing as post partum depression remarks... but I stand firm in my beliefs and that's just my opinion. I'd say thanks for sharing but I'm smacking myself for reading this now.. ugh but a 10 anyways for the time you put into this.
