I've discovered a new craft. It's easy and it's "green", earth friendly, since it reuses things you might toss away. It's magnetic bookmarks. I saw them in a local shop selling for 3 for $5.00. I thought they were just the cutest things and useful as well. It made me think. All those free magnets that advertise people's business cards could be put to good use. Combine that with all the cute cards you get and toss and you're doing some good recycling. The idea is to create a foldable magnetic bookmark. The shape is square and 2" x 2". So its 4" x 4" folded in half. At the bottom of each half you glue a strip of your magnet 2" x 1/2". Now, if you slip that over your page in a book the magnets meet and hold your place. Clever, yes? This is a good project for a slightly older child, one that can cut well with scissors and is neat with glue . With children I'd stick to Elmer's glue. The design on the card is your choice of course, I just try to find pictures that work well for that shape. You'd be amazed at how many work out.
You will need:
Magnetic business cards cut into 2" x 1/2"
Glue (I use hot glue but Elmers will work)
Old Christmas cards or any cute cards cut into 4" x 4" shape, folded in half
Cut your card, fold it in half and glue your magnet on. Easy, clever, useful, recycled.

And I never have anything to do with all my cards...cards, cards, cards. Holiday cards, greeting cards, cards...too many. Thanks for the idea!
