Sooner or later, whether we're in fifth grade or grad school, we will be assigned to do a research paper for someone. Perhaps it is the authority we have attached to the term "research" that elicits the immediate groan-response.
It is important not to let the concept of research or higher education become so consuming that we miss out on opportunities for fun. After all, life is supposed to go on, or why are we studying for a future career, right?
Some folks are very much at home in the library.
Others find the volumes of knowledge and information overwhelming.
Libraries offer all the comfortably familiar traditional books, usually with texts by many different authors, providing a variety of interpretations of material, based upon different studies with a different focus by each author.
These days, there is the World Wide Web for an even larger search for information.
The best information of all, however, is that we need not torture ourselves when faced with researching a topic not related to our chosen career. We always have the option of using a book or reference from the Juvenile (Children's) department. The information is just as truthful and useful, but the language will be more immediately accessible and clear.
And never be afraid to ask for help!

Gerry, as I struggle through this Biology course, nearly 3 decades since my last bout of education, I have found that even outside of school I was learning a great deal of useful information. The most valuable of that was "knowing and using resources" from BSA Wood Badge training -- which was all about the value of teamwork.
John, thanks for stopping by! As you can see, the return to college is already showing results. ;-)
Love your essay because I'm very much at home in the library.
I love my local library, but it isn't a place where I can go and be "anonymous" -- they're great folks and more like family after all these years.
Elizabeth: Hedgie is an inspiration, indeed.
Once again, these articles allow the child in me to enjoy an article as 'fun'. Thanks!
I can get to your articles of particular interest SO much easier!
Thanks!
