When I was a little girl, my parents often took my brothers and I to the beach for evening strolls. I have carried on this tradition, and in South Florida my husband and I often take our sons for an evening stroll down the Hollywood beach promenade. A week ago I took my two sons Roshane (4 1/2) and Skyler Kai (15 months) for their first trip this year to Tversted Strand (Tversted Beach) in Northern Jutland, Denmark, the very beach that my parents took my brothers and I to, when we were younger.

We are visiting my parents, who live on a farm outside the small town of Sindal about 15 minutes by car from Tversted Strand, just in between the two oceans Kattegat and Skagerak.

Tversted has one of the most beautiful wide sand beaches in Denmark, and in the summertime the small beach town is booming with tourist mostly from Germany, Sweden and Norway. The beaches are very wide, and cars are allowed down on the long stretches of beach.

The Beach in Tversted has been awarded the Blue Flag, an internationally recognized brand that is given to beaches, which meet strict environmental and safety requirements.
For more information about the Blue Flag go to:

I just let the kids out of the car. Roshane is running towards the water all excited, and I think he forgot that the Danish water is quite chilli, especially compared to the warm South Florida water that he has gotten used to.
My youngest son Skyler Kai, has stopped to find a sea shell, but he was also very excited about being let loose in the white sand.

Skyler Kai is enjoying his freedom, and he is loving the beach despite a little bit of chilli wind.
The Beauty of Brotherhood
My sons were so excited about being at the beach again, and Roshane gave his younger brother a huge hug and told him "I Love You, SkyKai!"
Skyler Kai, who is used to all the hugging and kissing from his brother, looks like he is saying "enough already", but he is just as loving as his brother... usually just when his brother is not.

Walking at sunset...

As the sun is going down, and the chill of the night is setting in, we hurry up to the very popular ice cream houses in Tversted. These are famous for their incredible ice cream cones with lots of ice cream.

The Blue Ice Cream House in Tversted, is the one the farthest away from the beach, but we often chose to get our ice cream here, as they have the best selection, and there are convenient parking spaces as well.
The Yellow Ice Cream House at Tversted Beach.

My sons get their first Tversted Ice Cream Cone of the season, but I have the feeling that it will not be their last.

Last summer Skyler Kai was too young for ice cream, but this year he manages very well despite the fact that it is way past his bedtime.

The sun is beginning to disappear behind the dunes, and the darkness is closing in on us, as you can see on the photograph of this beautiful beach house.
This house is the one that is nearest the beach, and it is sitting there in solitude, since the dunes are preserved by the Danish government.
It is now time to return to the farm.

I have spent time in Florida and those are the best beaches I have seen!
It's Memorial Day weekend and if I lived somewhere else, I would me at the beach. Damn! :(
It is strange, because I see everything different during my visit to Denmark this time. It is as if everything is beautiful and amazing, and I just want to capture every signle part of it. Maybe it is because the line between life and death is getting more fuzzy this time, I do not know, but one thing is for sure - I really do appreciate everything that life has to often. I think I have realized that we really do need to enjoy the moment, and get the best out of everything we see and experience, because alll of a sudden things change.
Sonia, let me know if you ever get to the area. We are 95 % sure of moving before August as I am supposed to start classes at UFL in mid August.
Jai, I love the sleepy picture of Sky too. He's got this thing about falling asleep, when he is eating, and he really had the look that evening, so I was afraid he'd fall a sleep on top of the ice cream. He managed to stay awake though :)
Jessie, I am honored that you will feature the article in travel photos. Thank you!
Marily your comment mean a lot to me, I will sure keep on posting. I am working on another photo essay at this very moment.
Second, you were in Denmark and didn't call me?
Lori, I apologize, I don't know what happened, I will go submit it right away:)
Those ice cream cones are called Danish Delight here in Enzed, and thanks to this article I'm gonna get one at lunchtime.
Thank you.
*cough* *choke*
Off to find it and spotlight it... or whatever ya call it. HA!
