Say Hi to Roy Hilbinger
May I interview and feature you???
OMG!!!! I'm the subject of one of your famed interviews! Sure, I'll bite.
What is your favorite word? Hello.
What is your favorite sound?
Birdsong. On Saturday and Sunday the morning classical music show on WGBH out of Boston starts off with birdsong. This is a tradition that goes back almost 30 years, when the late Robert J. Lurtsema started out his Morning Pro Musica program - and that was 7 days a week - with close to 5 minutes of birdsong. And of course when I'm out hiking it's my constant companion; it's why I don't go hiking plugged into an iPod.
What makes you happier that anything else? Making other people as happy as I am.
What do you dream of?
World peace, the end of war, tolerance for all. Oh yeah, and winning PowerBall!
What do you like about your life? The people in it.
If you could have three wishes what would they be?
To be able to retire and devote all my time to photographing Nature, to be able to buy a certain 4.5 acres of land right on the shores of Gooseneck Cove and make it a refuge for the weary and stressed during my lifetime and leave it to the Aquidneck Island Land Trust (a Nature Conservancy affiliate) in my will, and to create a work of art (multimedia - music and visual) that will change people's lives.
Have you figured out the secret of life? Heck no. The fun part of the whole thing is not knowing and spending your life trying to find out!
What makes you laugh? At the moment, Douglas Adams' Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy series. Next week it's likely to be something else. There's a lot that makes me laugh, mostly having to do with how silly we humans can be.
If you could choose 5 people to have dinner with living or dead who would it be?
Well, the dead have better things to do than have dinner with me, so it'll have to be the living. Let's see... Wendy Carlos, my buddy in Maylasia Kim Leee Fung aka Antares Nu'mion aka the AntMan, Peter Jackson, and the Wachowski brothers.
If you were alone on an island what three things would you have to have with you?
A MacBook (an Apple laptop) with all my music and photos on it (complete with a solar cell battery to keep it going), my camera, and my teardrop mountain dulcimer.
Is that it? Can I go to bed now?
