Group Organization is a good thing.
Now I love Gather as much and maybe more than the next gal, but being able to categorize my groups into folders of my own naming, category sections, or something to enable ease of publishing would be really helpful. For example: when I want to publish a picture of my kids, I want to go to all of my parenting groups to post to those, then I can open up the photography groups folder and post to the ones that my image fits in, then open whatever other folders have a spot for posting something and go from there.
When I'm looking for one of my groups in my groups list, I don't want to have to search through each and every group I am a member of to be able to find a certain one. Organizing makes life easier.
Friends List & Group Search Function
I would like to be able to search my personal group & friends lists quickly by name or keyword. Saving time searching gives me more time to publish articles, images, and to comment on the many great things others have shared. It wouldn't be very hard to code.
Group Invites to Deleted Groups
I'm sure we all get invites to groups nearly constantly, and most of us have had this happen before. We get the notification in our email and log in to Gather to join the group or not, and the invite is no longer there. *poof* it's gone like it never existed in the first place. But the number at the top-right of the page is still there, taunting you, reminding you to go check your invites, only to find that there is still nothing there... It would sure be nice to have the number of pending invites deleted when the group you were invited to is deleted before you can respond to the invitation. Right now, my number sits at 14 pending invitations, and nothing's there. How many non-existent group invites do you have?
I love my Gather, and my fellow Gatherites. Here's to making it the best place on the net, together!

I don't have any deleted group invites though, knock on wood!
I'm hoping that someone in the Gather main team will see this and our comments and let our ideas help them to build a better Gather. :D
The folder idea was my friend Faith's. We were talking about a month or so ago about how Gather really needed a way to organize all the groups and such, and I was talking about some sort of alphabetical syatem when she came up with the folders. I would have given her credit in the article, but I forgot just where the idea had come from. Please go over there and give her a comment on one of her fabulous photographs. :D She deserves points for thinking of the folder idea!
Silly me and my swiss cheese memory. Sorry Faith!
I definitely like your idea of being able to have a "select all" option at the top of the categories. That would save even more time in some instances. Great idea!
that was sweet of you.
Now how do we get 'in charge of gather' people to notice and fix this???
It's only right once I was reminded about where one of the fabulous ideas come from that you not only get credit, but also some points as well. :D
