The Gather Daily Polls

I don't usually rant, but this is something that has been bugging me for sometime and today it finally prompted me to say something.

How many of you notice the daily Gather Polls?  How many of you can always give a completely true answer by clicking on one of the options? 

Sometimes I get so frustrated with the Gather Polls....... It is not often that they 'cover all situations' so that you can answer thruthfully...... Take today's:

Last night, Jordin was named the new American Idol. Did you watch the season finale?
I watched it and loved it!
I watched, but was bored.
Didn't watch, don't care.

How many of you were like me....who will not miss a LOST episode, especially the two hour season finale, no matter how engrosed I might have been in Idol?

As it is, we switched a few times during the commercials at ABC during LOST, just to see what was going on at FOX with Idol......... 

So actually, I can't truthfully answer to any of the above optiions! 

Now, if they asked, did you partially watch Idol and were happy with the outcome? Then I could say a resounding YES!

Well, I am not exactly like you, but my option weren't there either. Didn't watched, but would have liked too! As I am in Denmark, I couldn't watch it, butI watched the result on MSN though!

I know exactly what you mean Sonia. Today's poll worked for me because answer #3 fit pretty well. I wish it would have been more specific and said "Didn't watch it, never have, never will and don't care" But it was still pretty close.

There are a lot of days that I won't vote because none of the answers are really what I want to say though.

j r. I haven't watched the whole season, but did take an interest towards the end because my son was watching it......... I was glad to see the outcome!

Melinda, no need to apologize, we all have our favorite things to do.......usually mine is not watching all the "so called" reality and contest series....but the last few weeks of Idol was interesting......

April, I find the same thing most of the time.........

Moggy....I agree, much of the time the answers just don't fit....

This is the problem with polls - it's all in the way they are worded. People who really don't find any answer to fit will often just choose one they think is the closest, often times making the interpretation of results totally bogus.

Remember that, people, next time you hear any nation-wide poll results on any important topic! Take them with a grain of salt.

Sonia - can't take any personal credit or insight on that one. I learned all about slanting your polls on The West Wing episodes with Marlee Maitlin. : - )

I actually watched part of American Idol, even though I didn't watch all season. I just wanted to see who won. If I had 2 things I wanted to watch at the same time, I would set the DVR for one and watch the other.

The poll should've had 4 answers - the first three and then "tape one and watch the other".

I hate polls too as they don't always give all the answers to pick from.

I didn't see the Gather poll as I wasn't at Gather in the last couple of days.

Risa, I can barely walk and talk at the same time....taping a show while watching another is not in my repertoire.........LOL

Waika - you're right - that should have been an option

Lynn, most times its not worth the bother, but sometimes I want my voive heard....even if it gets lost in statistics.......

Sallie, that is a good thing.........for osme people....and other's can't live without it.
I can go days without watching, unless one of my 3 favorite shows comes on and then I HAVE to watch them ;-)

I watch-- but "love it" is a little strong. The one that got me was the one asking if gas prices would effect how much you drive this summer. Since I don't drive, it doesn't effect me-- however my answer implied that I was not environmentally conscious when the opposite is true

I don't go to the front page unless by accident, since it only frustrates me to see the ridiculous poll (for the reason you mention) and it often features some horribly written articles.

Sandy, I like to read the front page just to see who I know is being featured...sometimes you can run into some good stuff.... I guess I shouldn't have let the polls get to me, but somehow...they do! LOL

I do find the Gather Poll a bit difficult sometimes. There have been a few where there was no answer for me. I watched Idol, I really hope that when I get home from my trip that TIVO got Lost for me.

Oh, Sue, if you keep up with LOST you will get a couple of big surprises.......a lot happened in the two hour finale.....and Walter showed up again, though briefly.....I kept wondering what had happened with him.... I hope the TIVO got it for you!
