The New American Story doesn't start with government. It begins with you. The fire of idealism burns first in an individual heart.
- Bill Bradley, The New American Story
How are you a responsible American citizen? What is your definition of good citizenship? Is this something that your parents taught you? Or just a sense that you developed as an adult? Do you believe in an American Dream, not just for yourself, but for your nation?
This is your chance to share your call to action, and share your story of how you are building a new "American Story."
As Mr. Bradley says, citizenship requires true action: "Sometimes complaint and criticism are helpful, but they are not enough; we must all accept the creative responsibility inherent in citizenship. Acknowledge that change begins with yourself and that you won't sit on the sidelines anymore."
To share your story:
1) Join The New American Story group and the Gather Essential: Politics group
2) Write your essay on citizenship and activism
3) Publish it to The New American Story and Politics groups
Exceptional stories and essays will be featured throughout the summer in The New American Story group and Politics groups.

For the greatest political protest song I have ever heard (and by an English band, at that), listen to the Oysterband's "All That Way For This":
"In the middle of a good time,
Truth gave me her icy kiss.
Look around, you must be joking:
All that way, we've come all that way for this."
I look forward to reading your latest book. I just returned from a journey to Istanbul, Alexandria, Cairo, and several Historic Greek and Roman cities including the UK. What is disconcerting is the Universal loss of respect for the United States in general and the current executive administration in particular. Our leadership in foreign policy matters has fallen to a new low and our dirty laundry most apparent. I have maintained that one remedy to our moral bankruptcy is impeachment. The image of the United States can only be repaired by impeachment of those individuals who are responsible for the false basis for the killing fields of Iraq and the widespread unrest in the Middle East.
