Annoying Spanish Phone Call

Since about a month ago, I started to get a very strange phone call on my cell phone. It was a recorded message in Spanish. All I could understand was "Ola". The first couple of times, I waited until the message was over to see if there were any English option, but there was none. So now I just hang up on it immediately. I have plenty of airtime minutes, so this doesn't cost me anything. But it's annoying.

I don't want to change my cell phone number because the impact would be pervasive (and I love the number I hand-picked and I will not give it up). The strange phone call was from 512-888-9898. I did a reverse lookup and couldn't find any directory listing for this number. Does anyone have any idea how to deal with such phone calls?

I've never had that problem either. Is there any way to block the phone number? I know some phones have that ability...my daughter is able to do that on her cell phone but I am not. Now that you know the number, when they call, I'd just hit ignore and not even answer it anymore.

Heidi - I wondered about the same thing. I don't think I can block a specific number (via the phone) and my cell phone provider can't do that either.

I don't usually look at the caller ID before I answer a phone call...I probably should make it a habit. I just got a call (which prompted me to write this article), so I looked at the "call log" on my cell phone, and that's how I got that number.

That is very interesting -- the strange one that we have, still gives me chills. The lady who said, "Hello, hello?" sounded Russian, and there was a weird little harp-like sound in the background. But the weirdest part, was another lady who came on at the end, saying "Denny Hastert"! So maybe it was actually some kind of cryptic political message. Unfortunately someone tripped off our power strip, so we lost the message! Maybe it was one of those conservative / Republican lists I am on. I guess the next time you get the call, start singing "La Bamba"!!

Did you put your cell phone on the "do not call" list? I registered both my cell phone and my landline phones. So, I don't get that type of call.

I only have one call that comes to me for some insurance they want me to buy. I just delete it as soon as I hear it. I also check my caller ID all the time when I go to answer.
