Movie Review, Shrek the Third

I bailed my daughter out of school early today.  I had free movie tickets for GIVING BLOOD!!!  When I got to the theater, I had to pay $3 for my daughter and I to upgrade the tickets and see Shrek the Third, which was a new release.   I did not have any problem with that and anticipated it before we got there.  I stopped at the snack counter and bought a large popcorn and two medium sodas, to the tune of $15.50.  I chuckled at the thought of my "free" movie costing nearly twenty dollars.

So Shrek the Third was entertaining, and mildly disappointing.  I found the first two Shrek movies to be much more humorous.  I enjoyed the addition of a new character, Arthur, voiced by Justin Timberlake.  I also felt that the different princesses added some cute moments to the movie, as the writers put an interesting spin on the women we know so well, such as Snow White.

So the bottom line is that I gave up some blood to see the movie, and was disappointed, but at least I didnt have to pay for the tickets.  If I were rating this out of 5 stars, maybe 3 and a half.

I'm not overly excited to take my kids to see this one. I think if I have my choice, I'll wait until Ratittoule comes out.

I WILL go see the new Pirates movie with my daughter this coming weekend.

I have heard that many disagree about this movie. I guess you guys will have to see for yourself. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't a bad movie. I just liked the other two better.

Pirates! Pirates! (yes, I'm dying to see Pirates, but have no real interest in wasting the money on Shrek the 3rd... interesting how one series can be more riveting than another?)

We saw this movie on Friday. My husband & daughters loved it but to me it just wasn't the same. Not sure why though. It seemed awfully short & just seemed off somehow. Maybe a second viewing will help but that will have to wait til it's out on DVD. Thanks for the review!

Vanessa, I'm shocked! Aren't you a teacher? springing your daughter out of school early?? ha- I had heard that this movie wasn't as good as the other two, but we'll probably check it out. thanks for the review -

I took my 5 year old to see it on Sunday. It was his first movie out somewhere and he did pretty good. I agree though... I liked it a lot, it had some laughs but I think the first two might have been a little better.

I've been thinking about taking my daughter to see this movie. She loves Shrek 2. But she's only 19 months old so I'm not sure how well she would do in a theatre. I might just wait till it comes out on dvd, especially since it's getting mixed reviews.

I had heard the same about Shrek 3. I'm waiting for it to come to dvd. I'm not big on the theatre. Too many obnoxious teenagers.

Our family loved the first two. My step-daughter was the "green" ogre- princess in a school play. The second one kept us howling much of the time. I have little hope that #3 is better than most reviewers say - we'll likely wait for the DVD.

Pirates of the C 3 put me to sleep. The end was good. My wife enjoyed it, though!

My oldest is begging to see this - may have to tell him to wait until it comes out on DVD... I did enjoy the other two Shrek movies - so at least I now know not to get my hopes up too hight - even with all the hype :)

Great review. I've heard mixed ones so far. I'll probably wait for the DVD to be honest but I know I'll buy it because after all, let's face it... we all LOVE Shrek! LOL

I loved it. My husband and I went to the drive-in near our house to see it, and we loved it. The only thing is we thought that it was over really fast. I would like to see it again.

I agree that the movie did not live up to the hype. I was really excited to see the third seeing as how the first two were really funny. I read an article not too long ago that said the writers and directors were a little shy with the third film and did not go as far out as they had with the first two. I still thought it was funny and worth going to see.

I liked shrek 3. It was entertaining however I've seen better. This movie would be great for kids.

i loved shrek 3. i was extremely amused by the first two and when shrek 3 came out i saw it at midnight on the opening night. i laughed the whole time and enjoyed every minute of it. and now i happen to own all three movies. i believe the third one was just as good as the first. it was entertaining and kept me laughing with witty jokes.
