I don't have a May or even a June garden. My garden EXPLODES in July. So, right now I have a sea of forget-me-nots to cover what isn't there yet. Also, my purple alliums (the proper name escapes me) are standing tall and are mostly open. The columbine has just opened - I have deep purple and the native one that is orange and yellow. I have to keep them at different ends of the garden because columbine will freely mix and change colors when it comes back from seed. If one isn't careful, one eventually will have a garden full of mostly mauve flowers.
The hostas aren't enven all the way unfurled. My favorite is 'Sum & Substance'. My 'Miss Kim' lilac is almost peak. The cooler weather has kept it fresh. My old white lilac tree seemed to be done even before it really started. Epimediums are blooming in the shade as are trillium and bleeding hearts.
So, how does your garden grow?

Kathleen, about the lilacs, you have to dig the roots out to get rid of them and yes, you can take a piece you dig out that has roots and plant it elsewhere. The only other option to rid yourself of the suckers would be a brush killer but I'm an organic gardener and never use any chemicals. I don't trust what anyone says about the supposed safety of herbicides and pesticides. It all goes into our water eventually.
