In the Glass Darkly
I looked into the glass darkly
saw rubies glowing blood red
gold glittering and shining brightly
diamonds sparkling to beckon me
all manner of treasures caught my eye
white mansion festooned with limousines
round-the-world yachts waiting in pens
and these riches could buy for me
` power to command lesser but greedy beings
to come worship me as self-anointed almighty
who possessed all these worthless things
but only if the ego I raised most high
and to it I bowed humbly down
so would I dance a little while
in tiny ballroom set in time
yet must forget I am infinity's child
to become bloated on valueless things
unable to pass through needle's eye
having sold eternity for a blink of time

I really like the opening lines: I looked into the glass darkly
saw rubies glowing blood red
to become bloated on valueless things
unable to pass through needle's eye
having sold eternity for a blink of time
My favorite part, good job!
Yes, those were the words.
All that glitters, all that gives radiance in the light of mystery
If the ego is given the reigns, its eyes act in judgement.
But does momentary fame call the tune for more than a moment?
Yes, I am a creature, a subject, of power.
In the glass of crystal prismatic facings
rainbows wax and wane.
In the eternal eye,
power can be fixed
to an eternal gaze.
I think I will spend the day saying, "I looked into the glass darkly" quietly to myself. I keep telling myself I will spend a day just reading your poetry and haven't done it yet. I WILL do it though.
