The allure of antipodean autumn…
Flocks of crested pigeons and galahs
Showcase their plumes

The autumn blues:
Homelessness and the meaning of life
How are we to live?

The rock wallaby
Feeds the restless autumn crowd
…Milk of marsupial kindness

Prepare to smile...
Cool birds in my garden
Kissing the golden vines 

 

Behold the new arrivals
The kookaburra, corellas & sparrows
Embrace the smiling daisies
 
The laughing birds:
Kookaburras on my porch
Why are they so pretty?

Survival of the species…
Shy birds need more thickets to hide
Who ate the last lorikeet?

The antipodean autumn
Captures the hearts of many…
Amorous rose blooms

how different a view from your porch than mine. i see low scrub and coyote and jack rabbits and cotton tail rabbits and quail and burrowing owls. i see the occasional mountain lion paw print in the dried mud puddles in the morning. i hear the pigeons and black crow on the roof and horses and cattle calling to each other in the distance. it's hot and dry and barren. i hope your place is greener!

I find the birds to be different wherever I travel. In North Carolina we saw a lot of Blue Jays and Tit Mouse, in Maine we saw a lot of Chicadee, in Vermont we saw a lot of cardinals, in Nevada we saw a lot of quail, in Arizona we saw dove, quail, sparrows, pigeons, grackles, and purple finches. Here in Montana it's Magpie and Sparrow.

Whets my appitite to see these species. I live in CA USA and we have other species equal but different in their charms.

Long ago my grandfather went to Australia and then on to NZ where he lived until he died. It continues to draw me to that area.
