In the Mirror Darkly 05 of 05
I Thought of You
I heard a whiff of our music
wafting softly from the radio
and I thought of you
my love
I thought of your
toss of the head
wild flash of the eyes
spring in the step
I thought of your
face
pensive and smiling
hair
flowing and glowing
eyes
twinkling and sad
voice
tinkling and lowering
lips
laughing and sweet
breath
warm and deep
heart
beating next to mine
my love
And I thought
of us
strolling arm in arm
through spring shower
and gazing into each other's soul
as the world bustled outside the café
stretched languid on the beach
drinking the blazing sun
with our skins aglow
and diving through the dumping waves
crashing onto the glistening shore
stepping around puddles
and over autumn leaves
the wane sun crabbing overhead
the cold breeze ruffling our hair
and rainbow set before our eyes
your hand resting gently in mine
snuggled warm in bed
on raging winter's night
with the wind whistling outside
the rain beating against the window pane
we drowsy and eyes heavy with sleep
and together sheltered from the storm
my love
And I....
but you went away
my love
ah you went away
my love
away
never to return
my love
never to return
my love
(I wrote this for a Love Poetry competition, held 20 years ago. I Thought of You was the runner up. The winner received: two first-class, return air tickets to Paris; accommodation in a five-star hotel; and $10,000 spending money. I received a watch, to the value of $100. Such is life, I suppose But it was a good watch!)

Unfortunately, Gather messed up all of my line indentations and thus this poem is nothing visually like that which I intended.
As I was leaving the award ceremony, after the speeches, the chief judge (a Welsh, internationally recognized poet) hurried after me and caught up as I was stepping out into the night. He was most agitated and apologetic. In a nutshell, he said that my poem should have won the competition - that he had argued fiercely for it.
I've never entered another poetry competition since.
You are loved, my friend! By many! And God holds your hand.
Keep writing and grace the world with your gift.
As to our differing beliefs, don't worry about it in the least. What matters is that God believes in us and loves us equally dearly.
Light and Love to you, my friend.
I forgot to mention that the chief judge, in his opening speech at the award ceremony, said that they had stopped counting the number of entries after something like 12,000 from all over Australia. So, I guess, I did good - even though I was dejected at the time and stopped believing in myself as a poet.

Beautiful, sweet, sad, touching poem. Loved it Magi. You are a wonderful writer.
"and I thought of you,
and I thought of us,
and I ..."
I do believe the 1st and 2nd prize awards were not appropriate. You should have gotten perhaps a train trip, a tent accommodation and $500 along with your watch.
Alas, romantic love can seem so fleeting - indeed, our hearts yearn for it. Ah, it can be such sweet sorrow.
Thank you for your generous remarks, my friend.
