Hello to all,
Coming home from our mini-vacation we found ourselves in Chester, IL. We didn't know that it was the home of Popeye the Sailorman's creator, Elsie Segar. Popeye and his friend can be seen everywhere in the small town on the Mississippi River.
Welcome to Chester, IL.

The Popeye Museum and Collectibles.
Wimpy stands in the park. "I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today."

Even the car wash has a Popeye theme.

The world famous manly profile. "I yam what I yam!" A gang of ne'er-do-wells lassoed the statue with a chain, hooked it to a pickup truck, then pulled it down and towed it away. The only damage was to his chin. One tough cartoon dude!

Dedicated in 1977 the statue stands proudly where the bridge crosses the Mississippi River.

I'm Popeye the Sailorman,
I'm Popeye the Sailorman.
I'm strong to the finish,
cause I eats me spinach.
I'm Popeye the Sailorman.
Namaste, Wayne
