I'm saddened by the passing of author Lloyd Alexander, one of the biggest inspirations for my own writing, and an author who was helped me develop my love for fantasy fiction.
His Chronicles of Prydain were richly steeped in Welsh mythology and featured unforgettable characters.
I read the entire series as a teenager. My favorite was Taran Wanderer, a wonderful coming-of-age story that taught me that sometimes the hero really is just an assistant pig-keeper, and that very often assistant pig-keepers make the best heroes.
Mr Alexander passed away yesterday, just two weeks after the death of his wife of 61 years, Janine Denni.
May they rest in peace together.
