Spring Fever in the Lake

I took my boys to the Tversted Lakes yesterday, a nature park with lots of lakes in the northern part of Denmark. My oldest son's curious eye caught this mother duck at the side of the lake with her little ducklings.

She looked so caring and protective, and she was chasing all the other ducks away. My son and I were able to get very close though, and we really enjoyed watching the ducklings play, swim and enjoy themselves.

This little duckling is preparing himself to go for a swim.

This little one was more hesitant, and she was standing by the edge of the water looking at her playful brothers and sisters in the lake.

This duck came too close to the duclings, and the mother duck got him to leave ver fast.

I have a Panasonic FZ7 (I think it's called) with a 10 x optical zoom, and it is simply great. YEs, I did use a zoom for some of the photos in the water, but I was within a meter from most of the ducklings, so I did not need a zoom for all of the shots. I was amazed that the mother duck would let my sons and I come that close.

Lovely pictures! I particularly enjoyed the duckling in mid leap. With such a protective Mommy, perhaps the majority of her brood will make it to adult statis. Thanks for sharing these lovely shots!
