(Received this from Naral Pro-choice. I know this is a tiny matter compared to out servicemen and women being in this war from the start, but nonetheless this is a significant issue)
Dear Friend,
Did you know that federal law does little to protect the reproductive rights of women serving in the military? Not only are servicewomen banned from accessing abortion care at military medical facilities, but some cannot even obtain emergency contraception, which can prevent unintended pregnancy if taken soon after sex, at their base pharmacy.
This week, Congress has an opportunity to improve health care for women in the military. The Compassionate Care for Servicewomen Act would add Plan B to the list of medications that must be stocked at every military health-care facility.

Now how does that policy, coupled with the one you mentioned, make any sense???
But I certainly believe it.
10.
Gulf War veterans have struggled with the government over recognition and care for mystifying illnesses, especially neurological disorders linked to exposure to chemical poisons during and after the war.
Brain cancer deaths, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's disease) and fibromyalgia now are recognized by the Defense and Veterans Affairs departments as potentially connected to service during the Persian Gulf War. Multiple Sclerosis is not.
MS involves an attack upon the central nervous system. Myelin, the protective covering around nerves, is destroyed. Scar tissue called sclerosis remains, resulting in a diverse range of painful, debilitating and baffling symptoms ranging from fatigue to numbness or blindness. Often diagnosis isn't made until well after the current presumptive seven year period, even though most MS patients can look back and see the first symptoms of MS years before diagnosis. My husband had been out of the service for 12 years before he was diagnosed, but we now realize that he had symptoms of MS even before he left the Navy. Unfortunately, we must PROVE that the way the VA approves MS claims now.
Here is where the veterans need your help: This legislation was recently reintroduced to Congress. If you are so inclined, PLEASE send a letter or e-mail in support of this bill to your Congressperson and Senators, as well as the Veterans Affairs committee and Senator Murphy. Also, we would be grateful if you would pass this on to your friends for their support as well. This bill can help my husband and other VFW's who are believed to have MS from exposure to toxic substances such as depleted uranium as a result of military service during war time. Below are links to contact both your Congressperson and Senator.
Thank you all so much for your continued support and prayers.
