Wow, I don't really have one favorite actor. So, I will say Nicholas Cage -- I've really enjoyed his movies over the past several years.

If I'm in the mood for comedy, it has to be Canada's own Jim Carey. On the other hand, if I'd like a movie with a lot of suspense, I turn to Robert De Niro.

I'm so glad I get to vote for Joan Crawford again. Thanks to DVD I think the day will come when she is known for her great work, again, and not that nasty half fiction exaggerated "autobiography" her brat daughter wrote.

Tom Hanks (if you are counting only one - because he has such a broad range in his talent)

honorable mentions:
Will Smith (another great actor)
Orlando Bloom (just cuz he's a hottie)
Patrick Stewart (love his voice)

Robert Lindsay is by far the most versatile and talented actor I've seen. From Song and Dance to Goofy to Serious to Assassin to Shakespeare and Dickens to Lover to Hero to Villian--he can do it all and convincingly.

And following close behind: Kenneth Branagh, Colin Firth, Sydney Poitier, and just because I love to watch him--Antonio Banderas.

Tough question! My first love is, was and always will be John Wayne. Nowadays I greatly admire Harrison Ford (most of the time), Sam Neill (even as a villain he's brilliant) and since Dreamgirls I have a whole new appreciation for Jamie Foxx and Eddie Murphy. And the wonderful Danny Glover is always great ... (and I'll stop now before I write a whole book...)

Val Kilmer. Always loved him, from his '80's career doing silly characters to his recent more serious work, he is convincing in all roles.

And more controversially, Brendan Fraser. He's done a lot of really bad films, but when I saw him in "Gods and Monsters" I realized he is a very skilled actor.

For women, I have to go with Cate Blanchett. Her ability to relay the emotion of her characters is incredible.

I am gonna go off the beaten path and say Don Cheadle , He is an amazing actor with a terrific range and I venture to say one of the most underated actors in hollywood right now. If I am gonna go old school I would have to agree with the person above that stated Sidney Poitier. For pure skill and also another underrated actor I am gonna go with Mos Def, he gets pushed aside because he is a rapper but he is also a great actor ( not many people know he was a classically trained actor BEFORE he was a rapper. )

This is really difficult for me to narrow down. And by actor -- did you mean it to include actresses? I knew that veracular has changed -- I like a ton of them, Spencer Tracy, Marlon Brando, -- for women Elizabeth Montgomery, Katharine Hepburn and Audrey Hepburn.

This sort of question cannot be answered with one choice; too many styles, too many contexts. Buster Keaton? Cary Grant? Lee J. Cobb? For sheer brute force impressive acting ability, I would say Toshiro Mifune. For versatility, maybe Stanley Tucci, maybe Jack Lemmon. But this neglects Ralph Richardson, Peter O'Toole, Michael Caine, George C. Scott, Max von Sydow, Sean Connery, etc. etc. etc. Too many possibilities.

Boy, that's a tough one...
I can't say I have ONE favorite actor. I'd have to say:

Anthony Hopkins
Lawrence Fishbourne
Bruce Willis
Morgan Freeman
Samuel L. Jackson
Gary Oldman
Prad Pitt
Vin Diesel
Robin Williams
Will Smith
Tom Hanks
Johnny Depp
Bob Hoskins
Jet Li
Yun Fat Chow
Chris Tucker
George Clooney
Jim Carrey
Gene Hackman
Tommy Lee Jones
Eddie Murphy
Sean Connery
Gerald Depardieu

I don't know at this point who I left out, but there are so many fantastic actors, male and female, that i is ridiculous to try to name one. Why not ask,
"Who are your TEN favorite Actors of each sex living today?"
That might be a little easier on everyone.

Dead: Jimmy Stewart (yay Bradford, PA!!!)

For Talent: Anthony Hopkins--not everyone can do justice to everyone from Hannibal Lechter to C.S. Lewis.

For Pure Appeal: Viggo Mortenson. (sigh)

Bruce Campbell all the way. I've always liked Johnny Depp since I was a teenager but Bruce is first, then Johnny. ::insert dreamy sigh here::: ;)

This is too hard. lol. I love so many. I love Christian Slater especially Robin Hood, and of course kevin costner. Then Nicholas cage for me too. Then after that would be Robin Williams, Will Smith, Jack Bauer lol no Keifer Southerland, Johnny Depp, Tim Allen (just because of Toy Story lol) I could go on and on.. love movies.

Ok for my top fave, I'm think Gary Oldman. But I've got to mention my favorites of the classics: Cary Grant, Jimmy Stewart, and Rock Hudson.

Oh far too many to count, but I'd have to say I love John Cusack because he seems like just the normal funny nice guy. He seems like someone you could walk up to and he'd be really nice and normal with you. I also love Jude Law, Harrison Ford, Chris Noth, Mark Ruffalo, Hugh Grant, RICHARD GERE, and John Corbett.
