A number of people are missing great opportunities to use the apostrophe in their insults. Because I want every member to be eligible for the Apostrophe Award, I offer this guide to using the apostrophe in insults.
- Your so stupid should be you're so stupid.
- Your so ugly should be you're so ugly.
- Your an idiot should be you're an idiot.
- Your the grammer police should be you're the grammar police. (consider grammar a bonus)
Game: guess why the underscored words are underscored.

Your so smart. Your so beautiful. Your not an idiot. Your so full of yourself! Im so glad your just a member very much unlike me.
thanks for the elucidation ... will try to keep it in mind when next I get cranky enough to bother insulting anyone :)
I am glad you are a member unlike what's'erface up there, too.
Sandy--don't be silly. You know "they" all do that just to make you mad, supposedly! I mean, it would be too much like right to actually use correct punctuation when they are solely typing incorrectly to piss everyone else off. And look stupid in the process.
Lori, that's what I hear.
Peter, I wish I owned the Best Comment On My Article award. You would win for this one.
Flit, you guessed part of the reason. (And I'm glad, too. Thanks)
Robiyah, I'm not sure which is sillier, feigning ignorance or choosing to remain ignorant.
We've just signed contracts with the Grammar Police and the Acadamie Francaise. Ask us about quantity discounts and distributor franchises.
=)
The astute observation and quick mind of one Joanne Huspek already stated my observation for me.
Yahoo. I could save a lot of time if I just waited things out.
Nippy, are you working on a semicolon version for people like me?
Nancy wins! (But those who come after this may continue to guess.)
They'll never get it, Sandy, and they're too dense to care.
I'm also glad you are a member nothing like her.
They'll never get it, Sandy, and they're too dense to care.
Scott, dear sweet man of mystery. "Yo mama" would be when you are calling your mom (or a really hot chick that you're trying to pick up). "Yo' mama" would be when you are telling a someone, "Yo' mama's so fat, when she sits around the house, she really sits AROUND the house".
Clare and Nancy, you both receive the only prize I own.
Thanks, Dawn, Kris, Scott - everyone. I'm gonna drop by later to pick out a whip, Kris.
(Sorry, Joanne. As long as I am in charge of apostrophes, I will do everything I can to protect them from anything W.)
Do I win?
(Unfortunately, all that flamboyant eloquence has completely knocked my cosmically cogent comment anent apostrophe'd insults right out of my mind...I'll be back when I remember what it was).
Your article shows you're funny!
Ruth, in case he doesn't return, I think you can find those at Scooter 13:86
Thank you, Sonia. I try to keep the humor alive.
Now let's not jump to conclusions. Louis Munch might be an innocent person who came here thinking this was a writers' site, and he was shocked to find this extreme (albeit brilliant) silliness.
Nancy, Louis does not think this is a writing site. He thinks it is church on his articles, and a place for him to insult others anywhere else.
Yes, Kris. It is.
"Short Storie's"
This was not intended as an insult, and yet I take personal affront. Hm....
Unfortunately, the people who are quickest to remind everyone that rules are made to be broken, don't understand that that only works when you know the rules you are breaking.
I'm not sure what you mean about knowing what it means when someone on Gather points out how long you've been here. Has that happened often to you? And has someone told you it has a special meaning?
You left this comment on this thread:
From a recent Gather article that purported to promote quality writing, I give you:
"Short Storie's"
This was not intended as an insult, and yet I take personal affront. Hm....
You referred to a recent article and gave me "Short Storie's". I don't know if "short storie's" is the title of an article or a group. You did not include a link or an explanation and the only thing I could get from this was that you might have taken offense to the apostrophe in the word stories. I wanted to respond to your comment, but didn't know how I could do that with the little information you gave me.
Your last sentence, "This was not intended as an insult, and yet I take personal affront. Hm.... " makes no sense out of context and you have given me no way to find the context, which I would have done in order to offer you a meaningful response.
I thought, since you had been here less than a week, you might not have any idea how many "articles" are published in that time, or how difficult it would be for me to track down the one you referenced.
Obviously, you don't want to discuss the topic of this article or the point of your comment, so why did you crash this party?
