Hello to all,
I will admit right at the beginning that I enjoy watching Survivor. The interplay of different views, cultures, attitudes, and goals make it compelling. The physical and mental challenges make it interesting. The deceit, lying, and deals give insight into others. Okay, maybe I'm making it too cerebral. It is fun to watch.
But now I have a decision to make.
At the end of the Season Finale last night Jeff Probst announced the new season of Survivor would take place in China. China? I know TV needs controversy to get ratings and viewers. But, China? How many focus groups did they do before deciding on China? Did the producers and CBS give the political situation any weight when making their decision? I think not. They most likely thought of one thing - Money.
My mind started reeling. Already there is talk of boycotting the Olympics because of China's deplorable human rights record. A record that is a known fact. Will those same groups and people want a boycott of Survivor, too?
Along with China's human rights record, there is the situation with Tibet. I believe in a Free Tibet. I want China to return the real Panchen Lama to Tibet (not the bad copy they claim is the Panchen Lama). Tibet isn't, and never has been a part of China and the Chinese governments occupying it is wrong.
Personally, I will not be watching the next season of Survivor. My one action may not have much effect, but it is the Right Action (one of the Noble Eightfold Paths).
How about you?

Of course, part of the Freedom is already operating: China's absolute spiritual starvation from the Communist years - Tibet has been "nursing" China, which is taking Buddhism into itself. How not? Every war has the effect of the "victor" receiving two things from the "loser": the religion, and genetic mixing.
Organized groups have had little-to no effect on the problems with China, and contacting a representative is akin to throwing a penny in a wishing well. As far as my personal having zero effect, I disagree. It got you thinking about it, it'll get others thinking about it.
Hello Carolion,
Creative visualization and healing intention through meditation can certainly have an effect. The idea of "nursing" and the effect of war on the victor and loser gives me something to ponder. Thanks.
