Las Vegas Travel Tips

As many of you may know that I live in Las Vegas. Before I moved here I had only been to the Las Vegas Strip twice, one for vacation and once for my marriage. I am starting to like it out here, but when we first arrived, it was a nightmare. Las Vegas is unique in so many ways that I thought I may share some tips if you are planning a vacation out here or even if you are thinking of moving here.

If you are planning to come to Las Vegas and it requires you to be driving a car here, plan on driving about 10-20 miles an hour faster then you normally do. I am serious, anything out here that has to do with driving is crazy. They did a segment on the news the other day that helicopters were clocking people on the main freeway to California from here at speeds in excess of 100mph. It is that bad. My husband and I are not slow drivers and we typically do about 10 miles over the speed limit. Well one day we were going about 70 in a 55 zone and we probably got honked and flicked off 10 times within one mile. And I never see these people get pulled over. But if you do get pulled over, plan on paying about $200 and up for your ticket.

Go to the strip during the weekdays. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are the days that are less congested and you will be able to see more on these days.

No matter what day you go the strip there will always be card flickers out bugging you. For those who do not know what I am talking about, Card Flickers are guys who work for strip clubs who hand out business cards with a half naked chick on it and here phone number and “rates”.. and they don’t hand them to you, they flick them in your face so you will take them. I know, it is really annoying. I think the worst thing about it is they handed them to my husband when we were walking down the strip holding hands… HELLO?!?!?!

There are plenty of other things to do in a casino besides gamble. Most people do not come to Vegas because they think all that they will be doing is gamble, when actually you can stay really busy with free attractions in Vegas and never have anytime to spend a penny on a machine.

If you want to buy a house out here, plan on winning the lottery before you come. I think the only state that has higher prices on houses is California. That’s why we have so many condominiums.

You will go broke if you need to fill up your tank with gas. I can get one gallon of gas or one pack of cigarettes, it’s ridiculous.

It is very hot here, but we do not have humidity since we are in the middle of the desert. Not as bad as Florida.

Prostitution is legal in all of Nevada except in Clark County which Las Vegas is located in

In my personal opinion the casinos that are not in downtown and on the strip pay much better and are less busy.

And the number one tip for Vegas is if you ever come here, you better look me up so we can party like it’s 1999!! (lol)
