In an attempt to take a stand (and probably just to piss me off royally), local businessman, Mr. H., decided to join the "Free Paris Hilton" bandwagon yesterday.
Mr. H, who with Mrs. H owns one of the largest private driving schools in the state, declared that he felt a certain amount of compassion for the wayward Ms. Hilton. Never mind that she was caught driving drunk, driving without a license, and violating the terms of her probation. (All things we stress to our teenage students NOT to do.) She probably was also driving commando (no undies). Mr. H. believes that rich people should get off easy if they have the money and means to do so. "Let her pay the State of California a couple of million dollars and keep her out of jail!" he bellowed, as Nancy Grace was picking apart the heiress on her nightly talk show.
Mrs. H, who strongly disagrees, thinks this is sending a very onerous message to young people everywhere.
Mr. H. has a business associate in Sacramento who knows the Governator, and they will be applying pressure to have Ms. Hilton's jail time reduced or eliminated.
As an aside, Mr. H. also believed that Scott Peterson is innocent and should be set free. Conversely, he thinks that O.J. was guilty.
Back to you, Mike.
