Even though I joined Associated Content a few years ago I never started publishing until this month (May, 2007). I signed up and used the pen name (autismfamily) which is the same id I have on ebay and read around there once in awhile.
I finally took the plunge this past weekend and submitted two articles. The first one was submitted for non-exclusive non-pay, one of my shortest articles ever. I then read around the site and left comments here and there, searching on topics of interest and reading the featured content that was appealing to me.
I have received emails through the Associated Content system from a few of those people and really liked having that contact and feedback on my comment and starting a conversation. I checked out the forums but was not really interested in much happening there, but did note a site that pays five dollars for review via paypal. They are called http://www.momproductreviews.com
I submitted them both on Saturday night (pacific time) and by Monday afternoon the non-paying short one page article was posted and had a star rating already. I got the email yesterday with an offer and accepted it for the second article and today received the paypal confirmation email and a few hours later the next email saying I was published.
This was a quick process and I noticed this one also had a rating already. I have some questions for anyone who utilizes the site -
1. Is there a place the newly published articles appear - similar to the just in page at epinions or the new articles here on gather?
2. Did anyone make enough money last year (2006) to get the form 1099? This is if you have over $600 in compensation? How long did the process take to get your form and did this hold up your filing of the tax return?
3. How do you keep track of where you leave comments so you can return to see if a reply to yours?
4. DO you reply back to all comments or send an email to the person?
5. Do you digg, delicious and all that other stuff? I wish someone would explain those in more depth. Perhaps an article for my group would be possible - http://acwriters.gather.com
I read some of the FAQs at the site and it mentions your name must be the same if published content elsewhere so I removed the autismfamily pen name and kept my name there since that is what I use all other places online.

For Just In articles, go to the main page and scroll down a bit. You will see all kinds of different tabs to click on. One of them is Content Spotlight: Newest
You cannot at this time get alerts when someone responds to a comment, only comment alerts on your own articles.
I do not usually reply back over there.
I do not track my comments on other people's articles, unless it is a hot debate ;)
I DIGG everything. It brings in tons more hits, which of course helps with the hit bonus. And that hit bonus alone pays more per artcile than Epinions.
