I'm not one of those fans of Donny's that have a cool memory of seeing him in concert or meeting him during the 70s or anything like that. I wish I were. *grin*
My memories and adventures start the tiniest bit after that. During the 80s. I had followed his career since the age of five (I'm going to be 42 this year, you do the math Haha!) and my first concert of his was a Donny and Marie gig at the Holiday Star Theater in Merrillville Indiana in 1981.
My dad surprised me with tickets. He asked me "who would you like to go see more than anyone in the world?" and of course I replied "Donny Osmond!" He grinned, and pulled the tickets out of his pocket. Third row. I was over the moon.
Concert night came and I was frantically deciding what to wear, etc... just like the giddy teenager that I was. We ate dinner, burgers at the White Castle near the theater, but I was too excited to eat much. We bought a single red rose, in the off chance I'd be able to give it to Donny.
That night, during the show, Donny sang a little medley of love songs. During this part of the show, he walked out into the audience. It was during the song "Hello Again" by Neil Diamond, that he came over to MY aisle!!! Being on the aisle seat of course, rose at the ready, my heart was pounding. I just sat there for a minute, staring at him. My mom, who was next to me, nudged me and whispered "GO!" and with that, I stood up, handed him my rose, and stood there for what seemed like an eternity but only amounted to a few seconds, looking into those brown eyes IN PERSON! I could have died.
He smiled so sweetly, took the rose, and held my hand. I was flying the rest of the night. That will always be my very favorite memory of him, my first face to face with Donny Osmond. Though I've met him and spoken with him several times over since then. And even hearing that song come on the radio still brings a smile to my face.
Now I'm going to cheat a little bit and add my "runner up" favorite memory. Fast forward to May of 1991. We had been living in Florida since summer 1985 at this point. Three of my friends and I went over to Club Boca, a night club not ten minutes from my front door. I mean, how could I pass THAT up, right? Donny Osmond in my backyard!
Anyway, it was fun evening. We sat at a table in the club watching Donny through a glass wall in the restaurant with several radio people etc. One of my friends never saw him in person before and was just too funny, and I'll always laugh when I think of this. She'd go look! He's eating! Or look! He's this or that! And once he got up and walked off toward the mens room. And I laughed and said And look! He goes to the bathroom too! It was a riot. We all had to laugh.... well okay maybe ya had to be there. Haha!
He played a short set in the club later, and it was great.
But I have other wonderful memories too, not only of Donny but of his entire family. They've given me years of entertainment, fun, and friendships made that exist to this day. For that I'll forever be grateful. Donny might not know this, but he's helped me through some really rough patches. He's been an inspiration to me. Thank you Donny!

BTW, Polly is still shy and we still have to nudge her to go up to Donny. :)
