We just returned from a 5 day cruise on the ship the Imagination....Before we left I had doubts about the ship due to some reviews I had read....One article stated Carnival was the Walmarts of the cruise industry...what did that mean I wondered?
Not that there's anything wrong with shopping at Walmarts but why the comparison with these ships...I didn't what to expect, would there be announcments made, like "attention cruisers" would there be a lower end priced decor or staterooms? would the service be iffy?...what would the majority of the cruisers be like?
All I know is that this cruise was first rate all the way..Our stateroom was truly nice, much larger than the last one we had on a Royal Caribbean ship...the service was better, and the food very decent, not spectacular though, but good...The ships public areas were truly well kept , everything was spotlessly clean, the main atrium was truly eye catching....The ship has undergone a recent renovation so even though it's one of othe of the older ships in the fleet it had a newer feel to it.
We went to Jamaica and Grand Caymen Island where we had a blast on some snorkeling excursions and swam with Stingray's on Stingray Island...I just loved that, being the nut I am for all sea creatures, I held one and even had one on my back....feeding one was amazing as it grabbed the fish out of my hand...
Snorkling over a reef in the sparkling blue waters just off the coast of Ocho Rios was a wonder....our guide found an urchin and gave it me to hold out for the little fishes...when they came to me to feed I was astounded as to how beautiful they were, the brilliant colors, the funny little faces...we had bought an underwater disposible camera and actually got a few good shots but not close up enough for me..
Anyway, the point of the this article is to say that whatever the reason this cruise line was compared to Walmarts, whether negative or not, it was a stupid comparison, as it had no bearing whatsoever about what this cruise was actually about, or the people that were traveling on the ship...there were passangers from every age and race as well as people of all shapes, sizes and social status....the one thing we all had in common was that we enjoyed ourselves and all the activity we could take part in.
The Fascination really was a "fun ship" and cruises are available at a reasonable price...Let the adventures begin.

I am happy things went so well. Three months ago, Phil (popsrocks) and his wife left on a cruise from New Orleans. They arrived a few days early. Picking them up from the airport was the first time I actually met him face-to-face, but I have considered him a good friend for quite some time.
' that was so funny!!!!!!
In Montego Bay, I did a horseback ride and swim west of the city and that was fantastic. The horses rode around an old plantation, up a mountain, and hback to the stables for a rest before riding them into the water for a swim. I'd recommend not going to Margaritaville here because the food is bad - I had a super-greasy pizza. If you like rum or coffee, then Jamaica's your place. For rum, try Appleton Estates and Blue Mountain for coffee.
In George Town, I went snorkling and had a marvelous time looking down at the coral reef and tropical fish. There's a strong British influence too becuase the Caymans are a British dependency.
In Cozumel, I was going to go parasailing, but forgot that I was supposed to meet the guide at the Internatioonal Pier instead of Lobster Pier (Punta Langosta) where the ship docked. For a Mexican town, Cozumel's not basd at all - there aren't beggars, and the streets are clean. I wish it hadn't been so hot, however!
All in all, I highly recommend cruising on the Conquest. You can see a few of my photos on my page. If you'd like more, I'll send a link to an online gallery where I posted them.
I'm going on another Carnival cruise this January to Panama, Costa Rica, and Belize on the Miracle. This trip leaves from Ft. Lauderdale, FL. www.carnival.com for more info.
