I have two kids in school and they have their school carnival coming up on the 18th. I'm looking forward to it too because they did not have one last year. I'm not sure why, maybe because they didn't have anyone put it together. They had an Ice Cream Social instead that wasn't that well attended and while they did have a few games, it wasn't the same as the previous Carnivals that they held.
The school is having raffles for several gift baskets. They sent home letters asking for donations of items to put in the baskets. For Kindergarten, they are doing a beach theme so I got a few items from the list they sent out. I bought flip flops, sand turtle with some beach toys in it, trail mix, sunscreen lip gloss, Frisbee and a crab swim mask. My oldest son is in a combined 2nd/3rd grade class so he has to do what the third graders are doing. The third graders are doing a Movie theme so I bought around 4 movie size boxes of candy, a box of popcorn, 5 DVD's, a package of 10 bags that have red & white stripes and says Popcorn on the front.
I didn't spend that much, thanks to Walmart, the 99 cent store and I found the Popcorn bags still sealed at the Salvation Army for 79 cents. 4 of the DVD's were from the $1.00 bin and one from the $5.50 bin. I couldn't afford the latest releases on DVD but I wanted to participate. I think parent involvement is very important for a school, plus it makes me feel good to help out. :)
The school sent out another letter asking for donations of canned soda, water bottles, individually wrapped candy, etc. I'll try to get at least a couple of things but after donating for the raffle baskets, I don't want to break my pocketbook to much. :)
The school carnival is a week and a half away. I plan to take pictures and will probably post some here.
